Basically, in my game I'm featuring different presentations (like going from modern to16-bit and back again) and I'd like to change things around visually for the menu per each different presentation. I figured it wouldn't be possible, but I figured why not ask? Anyway, thanks for the plugin! :)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, domerdel. That's a pretty tough boss even at those levels, but what you'll want to do is be sure you have the ribbon on that you can get from the main story's final dungeon (along with the best armor for the rest of your party), haste your healer soon as possible, and just keep everyone healed as much as possible while pouring on the damage.
Might take some RNG luck, but persevere, and you'll get through.
I just started playing the game and I'm really enjoying it so far. I have a few small critiques in terms of event structure, sound, etc:
1) Transferring between maps during the introductory events is too fast and jarring. To make it more cinematic and professional, you want to do a fade-out before the transfer map and a fade-in afterwards. Make sure the "knock-knock" noise when transferring maps is removed.
2) I recommend using free for commercial music/sound effects from YouFulca https://wingless-seraph.net/en/ and the Makai Symphony https://makai-symphony.com/9-2/
3) If you're going to be replacing the RTP tilesets with something better, I'd recommend FSM tilesets or those from Kokoro Reflections https://kokororeflections.com/. If you don't have the budget for tilesets, you can customize the existing tilesets to make them more unique using various free textures for commercial use and GIMP: https://freestocktextures.com/
4) One more suggestion? During the intro crawl about the Marianas Trench, instead of scrolling text with the map scrolling down (which makes it a little unsightly while reading), perhaps displaying the text as pictures while the map is scrolling down would be better? In other words, take the text from the scrolling text and cut it up into chunks within pictures, do a fade-out/fade-in per text chunk with a blank text message before the fade-out, so that the player can read as per their own speed as the map is scrolling, and I think those static text pictures would work better for the introductory scene.
To be brutally honest, I think your game is already something pretty special. I'll be playing it after work when I can (and not working on my own game). I really think once your game has its new soundtrack, more customized tilesets and the eventing structure is a bit more cinematic, you'll have something really nice here. Oh, and while it *is* expensive, there's a fantastic character generator tool in a pretty great style for RPG Maker MV/MZ that I'm thinking of getting for myself where you can create your own field and battle character that's constantly being updated. https://robertpinero.itch.io/8dchars
You got this!
Thank you so much for the feedback! Glad to hear you enjoyed the demo! :D
I'm hoping to have the game done by sometime this year. Things have been hectic for the past several months, but I'm about ready to get back on it and do some serious game dev to get this one done. Johan's one of my favorites, too.
I'm totally down with people sharing their videos and feedback on here! It means a lot that you're already looking for more Alter Fantasy content, and it would be amazing to see you do a series on the finished game! I'm so glad you're enjoying it so much! I'm working on it as we speak. I'll probably update the demo one more time once I've got a few more hours' worth of content and that'll be the final demo until I complete the game when I'll upload the full release. The hope is that early 2023 at some point the game will be finished. :)
I downloaded, extracted, and starting playing the game when I received an error after cancelling out of the Options menu from the Title Screen.
My guess is that the way it was all packed into one exe is causing the issue, as it can't find the save folder it seems. Confirmed, once I'm in the game and trying to save, it won't let me.
Thanks Anwynn for the kind words! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It did take a lot of time to make the maps close to the original without relying on any ripped graphics. I hope that it conveyed well. And yeah, I generally flipped the gender script for the FF4 characters to some extent, but this all ties into a huge subversion and twist that I hope nobody sees coming.
I'm working pretty steadily on it on my days off, so I'm hoping to put up a huge update to the demo by the end of July or so with new story content, locations, etc. Thanks again for the feedback! :)
I'll be updating this as I go along. Here are my initial first impressions for the first half hour of the game. So far, I'm really enjoying it!
I'll be talking to every NPC I can find throughout the demo, and exploring much as I can. I'm using a PS4 controller and a pretty good rig (AMD 8 core 3.4Ghz and Nvidia GTX 1080).
- Options menu is robust and solid
- Intro is good, like the use of spell animations (are some of them custom)?
- I understand that the first 'battle' is story-based, but I would have still liked to fiddle around and try things out myself than just watch it play out. Still pretty cool.
- At 1080p everything looks fantastic (I'm playing on a 1080p 60fps monitor and it's what the game defaulted to for me), but the sprites and all are just too small in scale. The larger battlers look great during battles, but the field sprites are just a bit too small. Suggest either a semi-permanent zoom in (save for battles) or making the field sprites a bit taller (there was a plugin for that in MV but don't know if MZ has it).
- The UI and menus are very clean and look great. Loving the cursor sound effect.
- When I went to save for the first time, I noticed a save in slot 1 already for an hour and a half into the game. Intentional?
- Haventown map is GORGEOUS
- NPC in Haventown (in cave/springs map) "The water from these spings is said to..." Spings should be springs
- Really like the clouds rolling by
- The tombstone that reads "I told you I was sick!" gave me a chuckle
- Loving the custom portrait art
- I like the little details, like going into bushes you get a bushy sound effect
- Overworld is giving me Pixel Remaster vibes with the sheen of light on the sea/lands and all that. Liking it!
- First real battles and things are buttery smooth. Enemies don't hit too hard, and I took care of them in just a few turns which is good to see for beginning battles.
Fantastic demo! I played for about 4 and a half hours and had a great time with it! A couple of notes I jotted down as I played.
- Story is engaging and I want to know more
- Music is spot on
- Graphics and animations are really good
- With how much Aarlin goes through I just want to give him a hug
- Battles are very strategic and balanced for the most part however I noticed that self-heals with some bosses, even though they can be decreased with the right tactics, if I miss something and mess up, they heal for far too much. Suggest that enemy self-heals, even if (and when) the player messes up, be nerfed a bit. Enemies healing too much (even when part of a mechanic) is a pet peeve for lots of players, just to keep that in mind.
- Suggest buffing the base 'regular' attacks a bit. I mainly focused on my MP-using abilities nearly the whole way, even with the skill tree enhancements. Giving the player incentive and more options is always welcome.
- Speaking of MP, please give us more money to spend on MP replenishing items or lower the prices some
- Skill tree is awesome! Well done on that!
- Some of these maps are very well done, especially the world map
- I can't wait to see more with this story!
This is one of those games I've been waiting to play for the sheer enjoyment of what you've created. This game looks amazing! Thank you so much for bringing us what is sure to be an awesome game and for free! It'll be a day 1 download for me!
P.S. Just as a small thing. I realize why you're taking security precautions with your assets, but I hope that lowering the bitrate for your audio files doesn't take away from the quality of the game's soundtrack and sound effects for those of us who just want to experience your game with all it has to offer.
