One of the biggest challenges with Flip Market has been making the world feel believable while avoiding the use of copyrighted game artwork.
Instead of using placeholder boxes forever, I've started creating fictional game covers inspired by iconic classics. They aren't 1:1 recreations - instead they're designed to capture the feeling of browsing a second-hand game shop.
So far I've been experimenting with parody titles like:
- Resident Weevil
- Silent Mountain
- Alan Awake (working title!)
- The Last of Them
Each cover includes its own fake publisher, review quotes, age ratings, descriptions, legal text and barcodes to help sell the illusion.
The goal is to eventually have shelves packed with unique games from different generations, making every browse through the inventory feel a little more authentic. What do you think currently? Bare in mind this is a close up screenshot, in game you are further away from the covers for the most part.

If you would like to play the alpha for free in your browser go here: https://northeastinteractive.itch.io/flip-market
Let me know what you think of the current game covers. Note: They are not currently in the itch game
