Yeah I should probably start the player on the dock instead of in the landscapelocked tutorial railroad I quickly threw together. Thanks for giving it a try! (you didn't miss much)

Thank you for the kind words! I will admit I feel almost criminal for wasting anybody's time with this mess, but it's a rather momentous milestone for me to simply submit something to be judged. 

I also did think I would get way farther within 45 days but naturally all manner of personal catastrophies and maladies started presenting themselves as soon as I joined the jam and so I didn't really have all that much time for game dev, but I will continue working on it and one day it'll be something actually playable! Cheers bud
