Lol, I replied before I read the public announcement. I called it when I predicted that devs were planning to release chapter 8 this December and chapter 9 as an update. Take your time, devs. I await the Volga angst that comes with it when you perfect chapter 8. Meanwhile, I get to indulge on the new content you will give us soon.
I have read up to Chapter 5. I agree with the post with the names of the love interests that have seen the dark aspects of civilization with the addition of Lambert and Tharsix to the list. As for my thoughts on love interests:
Aoba: Best Bro/Friend unless Aoba does something big to help Volga move on from the past after Volga helps Aoba unlocks his shamanistic potential.
Cyrus: Flirty cat is fooling around and inexperience in real romance as shown late in the game. I can't see any chemistry happening between them unless Volga did something that made him admirable for the cat to fall for him.
Kakula: Like Cyrus, Volga will need to make himself admirable and worthy of respect before romance can happen.
Lambert/Tharsix: Being similar to them, I can relate to their pain. I can see these two bonding with Volga through their painful pasts, work out their trust issues and develop feelings for Volga that blossom into love.
Darius: High morals, gentle, and good listener. Volga pretty much open a path when he opens up his past to him, making him a potential emotional anchor and confidant.
Aquilo: Realistic idealist mysterious eagle man who has similar goals to Volga. Slow burn if they commit to each other.
Maximus: Both are similar in virtues and are natural magnets to each other in the story. They keep blushing when they see each other. One NPC even commented that Volga falls hard for Maximus.

I've seen the anime opening, heard the OP song and read the report on Lef's smile being "the smile he wants to protect." I interpreted that instead as being "the smile that is worth living for or helped Volga live" and his jumping into the pool with his circle of friends as "embracing the present." The game has shown that in multiple scenes (even in the aftermath of Tharsix battle) that Volga suffered from PTSD from his past and the ending scene implies that he is happy and mentally stable. Will there be scenes in the later chapters/endgame of Volga healing from that condition?
