Sadly I've just learnt via Retro Gamer magazine that Tony Kingsmill died from cancer in February 2025. 😢️ You may want to try contacting Cronosoft instead to see if they will grant permission.

I can confirm that Mighty Steel Fighters can be played on the CPCEC emulator. To enable an additional 512KB of RAM in CPCEC, select 'Edit' from the menu, then select '576K RAM' (or a higher amount).

I've written a review of Mighty Steel Fighters for my site, CPC Game Reviews. It's an amazing game and I really like it!

The password that the player is given for level 17 is incorrect. This bug occurs in both the English and Spanish versions. I had to hack into the game code to find the correct password. ;-)

Unfortunately the English version of the 'family' edition doesn't load. The file KOLO2.BIN is slightly too large and it overwrites the area used by AMSDOS, which prevents the rest of the game from loading.

I enjoyed playing the 'retro' edition, though!

It was composed by Targhan (the author of Arkos Tracker) and it was first used in the excellent Psytronik game Dead on Time.

CNGSoft has released an updated version on his personal site that makes several adjustments to the behaviour of the enemies:

Surely this is still a bug that would need fixing, though? There isn't enough space on the original game disc to store a saved game (it requires 11KB and there's only 10KB free), but the interpreter should at least report this and return to the adventure if it fails to save.

I can confirm that the scrolling is headache-inducing on my real CPC6128 (with a type 1 CRTC) as well.

I've tested it on my real CPC6128 and I have the same problem. I have examined the code and there is a bug in the keyboard scanning routine. The same bug is also present in one of Leosoft's other games, Druid and Droid.
