Thank you for playing Ink & Fate. We noticed that the NPC request has caused some confusion - we will improve the wording in the next update. The NPC option is basically providing a STATS boost, but I'm working on clarifying the quest language to make it consistent with the result. Stay tuned!

I really appreciate the feedback — currently looking into the aspect ratio issue and improving browser display. A hot fix should come soon!

Regarding the NPC quest, once you've completed it, it will automatically close the quest so you don't waste a round to get back to the NPC. You can only get 1 quest at a time - we will improve the gameplay in the next update so it reduces confusion.

And regarding searching, exploring can be rewarding, but it also carries risks. So sometimes you can decide which option to choose depending on your HP level and other stats. Also, resting gives you max HP or stats, which is not achievable through searching only. We will include your concern in the next update as well.
