i use for my game just 2 mods for S4P:
Arrics Mod (and the fix listed on the mod)
improved random portraits
then i just adjust the constants to my playstyle. i dont bother much with the mods other than that.
it somewhat depends on if you are using mods, and which ones. There are a lot of portrait packs out there and a lot of them overlap on some level now, either in duplicate portraits or updated labeling.
to keep it simple though, i would download a few different packs and see what you like, browse a few of the packs before you integrate them by using file explorer and just browsing the files.
my pack is setup for Arrics Mod and even has the expanded races (optional toggle in the mod). I've tried really hard to add a variety of portraits and expand on the ones that felt empty. the downside to my portrait pack is that you will need to integrate a males body pack because I've scrubbed mine. (debating putting it back but the portraits were kinda trashy)
overall here's what i play with:
Mods:
Arrics Mod
--this mod just makes the game so much better.
Ankmairdors fix
--fixes so many bugs
(*constants* just puts itself in your mod files after one of these 2 downloads) follow instructions on the other mods.
Portrait Packs:
*****Erase the original bodies, and portraits folders in the base game****
Guests Portrait Pack Jan 2025
*there's a file for males and even a special file called 'perm chars' that you can adjust/assign on your own in game.
(i would recommend the 'buff dudes' pack to fill out a lot of the male portraits. they are much better then the original files in my opinion.)
Updated Feb (2025)
~150 New portraits and filled out sub-races as well as cleaned up a fairly large problem i found with some of the dark elves and drow.
This pack is meant for the "Arric's expansion," as that it has ALL the sub-races that have been added thus far. (If I'm missing some let me know at the bottom of this page and I'll focus on that in the future.) This pack is also meant for those that assign their portraits manually for the most part.
I've been puttering around for a few years off and on making this and its honestly better than most of them out there, with one caveat...YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT USE OLD PACKS WITH THIS PORTRAIT PACK. The problem is that i have pruned, reworked, AND RENAMED many of the pics with their relevant portraits. What this means is that if you mesh this into your files then you will likely have a couple hundred duplicate pictures. While this won't break the game it can be very annoying if you like to find and assign portraits to characters based off their traits.

~2000+ Bodies/Portraits
~400+ 'bodiesnaked'
I RECOMMEND:
***Extra*** There is a folder called 'Perm Chars' (Permanent Characters) that is not integrated because i wanted a small list of specific characters for my game. feel free to integrate these into packs or use them how i do and assign them to characters you like in game. there is also no 'males' in their specified races because i gutted the ones i didn't like. (most of them) i have a separate file for them as well under 'Males'
Shout-outs:
Special thanks goes to the artists that post on "Rule34" and "Gelburoo".
---------------
There are no male folders in my pack that show up in their race, just a separate file for 'Men' (personal choice) that wont show up in game unless specifically selected in the customization tab in game. So to appease those that are looking for it, the "Buff Dudes" pack should fix most of the issues of having women's pictures when initially encountering males.
