I think this game is pretty cool. Clearly inspired by "busy-work games" like Iron Lung, but I think the gameplay loop in this one is way more fleshed out. A better thought-out story, actual threats that build up the tension and an actual world to see outside of your ship would push this game into being something special.

I think the developer is into something here. Keep working on it.

I do have to concede- your game is challenging and maybe worth playing. However, I also didn't have much fun playing it and lost my motivation to find the deeper mysteries. Here is where I'll plug my shitty Twitch video so you can get my impression of playing this game blind: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/756733959?t=3h50m42s

TL;DW =

  • + Good low-poly design
  • + Interesting atmospheric build up
  • - Game throws too much  into the "Slenderman" formula for it's own good. Even after you're aware of the threats- they constantly overwhelm the player. [Ex. multiple Pumpkin Jacks chasing you into dead-ends]
  • - What led to me not having fun was the feeling that counter-playing enemies often feels like overcoming annoying BS than pulling off tactics. [Ex. Its satisfying to avoid the Hook Man because his excellent ability to zone me out is balanced by the predictability of his movements. Whereas Pumpkin Jacks and Lil' Jacks spawn not only randomly- but aggressively close to you. PJs straight up are giant insta-kill boxes that zone me out while LJs are just a nuisance.]
  • - These games thrive on players figuring out the gameplay loop, but I got genuinely confused on what to do. Do I kill a vine then leave? Wait for a vine to take over? How many vines are there? How many vines are left? Don't need my hand held, but some guidance would be useful.
  • - Windows Defender thinks the executable was a trojan. I know it isn't (games like these can be detected as false-positives), but look into it (if you can).

It feels like this game is close to being good- but the combination of alot of small issues and annoyances (like the small draw distance of vines) culminated in making me want to stop. I believe if you invested some time with your team to tweak the game and get more input from new players, it'll improve tremendously.
