When Sky and Sea continues to be one of the most imaginative worlds and unique mid-crunch systems that I've had the pleasure of playing. Every page is oozing with flavor.
After having a chance to play the new edition, I can gladly say that it streamlines a lot from the first edition and enhances the pacing. A couple of my favorite changes:
- The new focus mechanic allows a clever way of always pushing an overarching objective forward or gaining a special resource to activate abilities.
- Martial characters feel more useful with their ability to shrug damage and Stand Fast feels much more prominent.
- Consolidating the stats into just the four attributes to track.
- Hits having more oomph with now flat grace/lethal damage based on weapon instead of subtraction each time.
