I can program to an extent, make music and sounds, and I can also design. However, I can't make art very well, so I would to work with an artist. Anyone?

alright folks i got a stupid fangame idea (big spoiler time):

i haven't played this game in a long time so expect some inaccuracies. after one of the two worst endings where soul nukes the joyful part of soma, heart survives using 50 tons and 23 grams of plot armor, and has to bring joy back to soma. the world is progressing technologically as quickly as ever, and soma is getting extremely powerful due to this, but this is offset by the fact that simply nobody is happy. so, heart needs to bring joy to soma (and somehow, JUST SOMEHOW, knock some sense into soul) with that acorn dude in the first area, who has now become a sprout, and that box guy from the second area who has decided to give up his job.

just finished it. spoilers ahead

i knew that the final boss fight was gonna be julius vs tai, but i had no idea that it would go the way it did.  great soundtrack btw, and the animations are really good, having lots of punch.

so far, i've been enjoying this! the only problems i really have are the sudden difficulty spikes in the 2nd boss and how unclear things seem at time. i didn't realize that the pots can actually heal you until, like, floor 17! also this rpg does not feel 3-4 hours long, but in a sense that's good because the story would likely feel too "compressed" otherwise
also zealous speech + signal flare is a pretty awesome synergy imo

if anything exploded, please post it here so i can see it!!!!

song choices are well done, gameplay was great, writing was shaky at times but the overarching story was pretty nice, and the art... uh... i can't hate it, but i can't love it. didn't waste my time, came back for nightmare mode (it was either extremely unfun or extremely fun), should have chosen bad dream

PS: nerf nightmare mode clayton

thought i'd go into more detail about the interesting things:
i think the joy boss for the box factory(i forgot the name) is way too hard, only boss i enabled easy mode for.
the sorrow boss for the sugar mines is so fun. absolutely exhilarating, never gets easy, and always keeping you on your toes. too bad it plays out like basically every other boss fight, because soma spirits is a strategy game where you've already figured out the strategy from the start (okay, maybe i'm just a natural at rpgs).

speaking of which, i think the game takes too long to make its main gimmick more interesting. for the first two worlds, heart and soul are exact copies of each other, and only diverge in the third world.

the music. for some reason, a hint of sorrow is used for both the worst ending's final bosses. i think one of them should have been a sad violin solo, but that's just a nitpick. anyway, most of the music is mediocre, but there are a few exceptions: willful woods, stay frosty friend, showdown, ambient air, and both blended battles. anyway, for some reason, soul's theme is used a lot more than heart's theme. i guess it balances out that there are more "orchestral" (heart) tracks than "chiptune-techno" tracks.

story. i think it's super cool that the orbs you choose have an impact on the actual world. looking back, i prefer this game over soma union in basically every way. this game just feels better realized, even if it's so much less polished.

SPOILERS LIE HERE. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BLACK THEM OUT, SORRY.

i'm gonna be honest here, i liked soma union as an experience, but looking back on it... uh, that kinda soured my opinion on this game. sorry.

first off, pixel art is either functional or straight-up ugly, like reca's "slightly upset" sprite. i like the earthbound-like battlebacks, though, they're cool and don't take too much attention away. although the artstyle in this game is much more refined and polished than in soma spirits, it's... just not the same. enough about art, though.

onto the music: i'm not a huge fan of soma spirits' music, nor am i much of a fan of this one's music either, but i think soma union's music is better. i really like captain guidance's boss theme. however, there is a glaring problem i have with the soma union ost that was just as prevalent in soma spirits: overuse of leitmotifs. if it's not the overuse of leitmotifs, it's because of an even bigger problem: all the music feeling the same. seriously, the "world" leitmotif gets really, really tiring.

the story? really good, especially presentation. character dialogue? shaky. like, holy cungadero, i get it. friendship is magic. absolution not-so-good. do what you want.

the gameplay? it really only forced me to think near the end, in which the movesets actually start to get sophisticated. then again, i was playing on normal mode, not hard mode. i should start my first playthroughs on hard mode more. if i were to introduce rpg combat systems to anyone, i would definitely use this combat system, though.

overall, okay game. not something i'd recommend, but i don't believe i wasted my time.

nice game, honestly preferred it over soma union (edit: accidentally said soma spirits again woops). pixel art was mediocre, music wasn't that good (there are a few exceptions), but some boss fights were pretty fun and the story is pretty well done

also the worst endings are really good fangame material imo

found a fix, apparently you're supposed to delete a file outside of the deltatraveler folder

My keyboard just does not work in this game. The escape and enter keys do what they're supposed to, but the game doesn't respond to the rest of my keyboard. The 1.0 version is fine and does not have this problem. I tried both windows downloads, and they both have this problem.
