Is an empty tip bone necessary? 

So, there is this bug in which Ik - Rig breaks, starts moving up and down, and never sets in the target. Initially, I thought it was related to a wrong bone hierarchy,  but sometimes I get that with no changes in the bone hierarchy. So, it seems to be unstable. I will try to investigate the reason, but if you have any clue what might be the problem, it will help.

Why are negative-scaled skeletons tricky even without IK?
We didn't have any problem with it until now. It would have if you point to possible problems we might have

We do need it.
The problem was that when getting the bone length, you checked if the scale > 0 and set it to zero otherwise.
It's a simple fix, if you want to add it to your project

Most of the 3D solvers don't work after changing scale to a  negative value.
The only solver that kept working for me was CCDIK do you know the reason? I believe it has something to do with how the rotation is set
