delighted to hear one of my games has found its audience!!!! Yeah that's the thing I rlly wanted to portray. I mean yeah I made the game because of a game jam because it was the first wtf acronym i could think of but ALSO there's this thing ive noticed where people only seem to consider things as being traumatizing if they're modern. Combat is traumatizing. The first diagnoseses of ptsd (not NAMED that but i mean, you know, the symptoms) was probably older than like. Shoes. People have been killing each other and having an awful time for the rest of their life about it probably since before people even existed. War is hell, even if there's no guns- in fact, war is arguably less traumatizing when you don't even have to be in the same postal code as the people you're killing. Can you imagine how awful it would be to be in battle with a melee weapon? You don't get the luxury of being able to pretend you're not doing what you're doing. You're killing people who are no different from you other than that you got them first.
But a war isn't just about the battle, is it? Cause you don't spend lots of time actually fighting. Battles in reality are pretty short. A war is the travelling, the sickness, the supply shortages, the getting lost, the mutinies, the stealing from the locals (very common), the being chased by angry wildlife - like. Imagine if you had to hike cross country and then also at the end kill people. And you don't even know them! Most of the time in war the soldiers don't actually KNOW their enemy- they don't have any personal problems with them, but someone very far away decided they want more money, or more land, or to remind everyone else how Big and Scary they are- which never involves them! The pope never got out there and smacked people! He just yells and then a bunch of people who one may dubiously consider his employees have to go across europe to ruin the lives of people they dont know just so everyone remembers what a big special boy the popey wopey was.
When you actually sit down and think about war it's kind of just... nonsense as a concept, isn't it?
