how would you turn the source code for the game into an exe file?

I'm a school student that needs to complete a game as a project, so I wondered if I could use your game as reference to when I create my own. Due to that fact, is it possible to get a hold of the main text file as when I try to run the game in a text editor a message comes up saying that the file cannot be opened as it either in binary or uses an unsupported text editor.

for reference I'm using visual studios, however I'm new to coding and don't fully understand the basics of programming, any help will be deeply appreciated.
