I'm not sure I understand the question fully, i can say that it's an important part of the story for most of the paths although I do allow to not see any if you don't want to. 

There are 5 "main" paths a player will be able to take (eventually) and it's probably secondary for 4 of the 5. It can become the main focus on the 5th though.
