It's not Linux's fault. Everything is run underneath Proton/WINE. If anything the WINE prefix running the game is lacking a proper codec, or something isn't configured right, even Steam could be messing something up. And it's worth to note that:

This isn't an isolated incident. Assuming from their comments, they're playing on Windows.

I have a solid problem: I can't play any mp4 files on the TV. They show up on the TV menu, and I can select them... but they won't play. Instead, they show a pitch black screen and selecting any other video on the TV or another just locks my game in a permanent freeze.


No amount of conversions to MP4: like selecting codecs, and other settings has done me any good. It refuses to play. For some background, I play on Fedora linux and I'm playing it through the latest GE release of Proton.


This kind of blows 'cause I wanted to watch some Joe Rogan spleunking on about aliens and zone out.
