when in doubt about gender, you can try looking out for what pronouns are used, like when magnolia uses "he" and "him" for mint; and other gendered terms, like when magnolia calls herself a mother, or dove refers to herself as magnolia's ex-wife.
i don't want you to think it's always wrong simply to ask. it's just that queer people get questioned on our gender and relationships very often, particularly right after it was made really obvious, and it's exhausting. sometimes homophobes and transphobes even do it on purpose to make us feel isolated. so it can be quite a sore topic!
