You don't need permission! Just do it and if they complain feel free to put a leash on them and make them push your square!

(albeit if they do let you have access to the source code that would be pretty neat and could save you time, although that isn't a common thing to share)

Beat the game while saving one person by not building the golem factory. No secret ending though, disappointing.
