Will do! I'm looking forward to it.

Okeh so basically. This game is schizo. Like real schizo. And probably brain damaged. If you don't like memes you won't like this shit. I love it, so I'm eating it up like sloppy joes on a cafeteria wednesday.
Lets just do it in one go since its easier.
First point. This game doesn't gaf what you feel about it. Prolly bc the dev is hopped up on caffiene or idfk, hard drugs. It's just that this gets out of hand quick. The very start has rly good character chemistry. Like, they bounce off eachother better than any other RPG maker cast I've ever seen. It feels more like sketch comedy than some grand epic. It reminds me more of ASDFMovie than lord of the rings. And sometimes that can be a turnoff. but once you get past that. this game has some of the best worldbuilding I've ever seen in an indie RPG. Everything mentioned exists. Every country, town, person, and city is a place that exists in the world, and its all intentional. Every piece of throwaway dialog about a place you've never heard of is in reference to a place we might one day see. Like, when Aria talks about the Ebon Sultanate we immediately think it's just some desert place, and it is. but its mentioned a few times as a place with black sand, where that sand is smelted into weapons harder than steel. All mentioned in one obscure item description. and it's just crazy how big the world outside our map is.
The characters are also pretty believable, I think their some of the most believable RPG mcs I've seen in my life. Since none of them are objectively good people or heroes, they manage to take an archetype and smash it to bits. if I had to compare it i would say it reminds me of konosuba. with its cast of failures. though in this case you have a goddess like figure thats actually useful (Linne my beloved).
The gameplay is also really smooth for rpg maker, the movement is smooth and nice to play, the combat is pretty in depth with the agility gauge and evade/parry options being a must unless you're crazy high level. Though stun is still broken asf. The combat i'd say is a lot smoother than 99% of rpg maker games you find around these parts, especially ones using the default assets.
I can safely say this is my favorite RTP game ever. I would say its the best but I'm biased.
if you like tumblr style humor you'll like this comedy, if you hate it youll find it cringe. And the horror mostly isn't too scary so much as it is uncomfortable and offputting. you won't find a jumpscare or anything, just good old audio and map fuckery.
tldr. 10/10, would be an 11/10 if Quasi stepped on me.
Okay but Istfg if this guy pulls an "it was all a dream" I'm gonna kms. Just embrace the insanity. It makes a way better game, and also stop apologizing for delays. Everyone knows it was gonna be that or burnout. You work too damn much on this thing. I love this game to death and spend way too much time analyzing it for my own good but health is key.
Also, I think it's more likely gonna be some kind of romance plot between leran and ruby with how his heart is trying to escape and shi when we meet her. Don't get me wrong, smash, but still.
Leran: This dude jumps between cracking one liners and having no social skills. I hate it. 10/10.
Keito: He's pretty fun. Seems like a chill older brother kinda guy you'd smoke weed with behind the office. 8/10 (Because of the one weird guy in the comments).
Kaas: Goofy, might be severely mentally disturbed, adorable, 10/10
Sylvanna: I think this character's IQ is straight room temp. She stoopid but in the lovable way. 9/10. Subtracting 1 because of the brainrot at Juan's Keep.
Kaori: I really wish she got more screentime. She's got some. But still. She just isn't as strong as a personality as the others. She's just a girl that likes to punch things.
Aria: I'm gonna say ZAMN and leave it at that, if you've played the game you'll know what I mean. 10/10 Smash.
Ruby: Gave me a panic attack upon first meeting? Nah I can fix her.
Sapphire: She had like one scene and some cameos. Gonna skip the vote for her till she gets some more events.
Linne: LINNE MY QUEEN HOLY SHIT I LOVE HER. SHE'S SUCH A FAILURE AND IT'S THE BEST. SHE HAS THE BEST DESIGN THE BEST DIALOG, THE BEST QUIPS, EVEN WHEN SHE INSULTS ME IT'S AMAZING. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH HER AND IF I CAN'T ROMANCE HER EVENTUALLY I AM GOING TO CRY..
Gonna add mine too. I think Cut Strings is the Canon Route.
Ruby's event also implies some kind of past relation with Leran or I guess the player? She's the only one who refers to you by the name you input in the first Linne sequence. Meaning she probably has some kinda meta awareness above most other characters.
Also, I think she might be the half blood Linne mentions. Since she's the most "plot relevant" side character. Though the plot is a bit of a clusterfuck (in a good way) since everything is hidden as heck and it's hard to latch onto one main quest when most of the worldbuilding is through character dialog mentioning things in passing. We still haven't seen Malbec, Daultus, or the Ortna Empire yet. Which is a bummer because those places would legit be better settings than most of Rhun. At least with Rhun it's contained and easy to build onto. I also think Kaas is some kind of ex slave given dialog about how she remembers chains and whips. Along with that being her class in the earliest builds of LOA. Overall I'm still gonna play because this game is hilarious and scares the shit out of me but still. I've got a few gripes too.
Oh, and one last thing. I think Linne may not be a god, maybe some kind of demigod or avatar? But making one of the most important side characters into a god seems kind of shitty from a narrative standpoint. The helpful guide goddess or useless goddess just feels too Tropey for something made by Enoreth. They use tropes but it just feels like Linne is a victim too given how done with life she is.
[SPOILERS]
Okay, I have a theory. So, for anyone who knows the Ruby subplot in cut strings. What if Ruby is the half blood Linne mentions at the end of the intro. for example, the comment about being half-blood. She's the only other character that has as much influence as Linne, because she only appears in hidden events. For example, she appears in the scene with the scent of lemon in Juan's Keep. It would make sense given shes the only character that refers to us by the name we input during Linne's Garden scene.
Other than that, I can only guess that Linne is a god. Or a godlike person who knows more than we do. It seems like the world is a time loop but I'm not sure how that relates to the current plot, if there is a plot at all. This game is good at making people think it has no plot unless you put the details together.
There are so many places that we only hear about briefly. We don't even know where Malbec is! What is the Ebon Sultanate? What's the point of mentioning Ortna? Is it just Japan? We only see a small part of the world, and while I love it, I wish we could go back to an area every week. I want to see all the places we know about through passing dialog.
WHAT THE HELL MAN. So I just played cut strings.
WHY THE HELL DID THIS FUNNY SHITPOST DND GAME JUST MAKE MY HEARTRATE SPIKE. SO OKAY OKAY.
heres the context. I was walking and I found a hole. Clicked on it a bunch, thought it was hilarious then the world broke somehow, talked to a teddy bear, gave me a bad ending. Came back with an item and it was chill.
SO CUT TO NOW. I'm walking through the first town. And some lady is just up there standing on the ledge. I clip through a cliff, Talk to her, AND THIS MF JUST HITS ME WITH THE MOST ACCURATE FUCKING PANIC ATTACK I'VE SEEN IN GAMING. OUTRIGHT.
This ins't even horror. This is just triggering a panic attack by making the player repeatedly click through 'I can't breathe' and using heartbeats to make me panic...
To sum it up.
Why does this funny dnd game do mental health more accurately than anything else I've played wth
Peak ngl, the characters are good, the writing's good, the music's great, and I'd definitely say it's worth playing if you're a fan of the genre but if you're not already a fan of the jrpg genre it's not gonna change your mind. but if you grew up playing dnd you'll definitely get a kick out of it and a few spooks if you go down the rabbit hole.
Found this through soundcloud but I'll be sure to keep updated with it.
