On a way more serious note. I am completely sorry that your trust was betrayed.Especially under the supposed auspices of a Christian banner. I however must tell you that the catholic faith is not truly for GOD and Jesus. Its has masquerade for generations to manipulate the people for power,money and ambition. 

That being said it would frankly would be foolish of me to say that everyone part that religion have selfish and evil desires. However when you look at their history. The dark ages,threatening to excommunicate scientists, rampant pedophilia and ect.   We would have to asks ourselves. Do they truly represent Jesus or real Christianity? So no they do not represent GOD and though no one is good. All fall short. Meaning its impossible for us to perfect. They have greatly misrepresented Jesus.

The best thing you can do is to read the New Testament of the HOLY BIBLE preferably the King James Version. Read all of it. It would be alot harder to take things out of context.

Than you will learn of the real JESUS. Look at how he dealt with the Pharisees. People who claim to be holy men but use the law for their purpose not serve GOD. 

You're a very bright and a intellectual. Its my sincere hope you read it and follow Jesus.  That being said its is freewill. Thus at your leisure. 

May GOD show you his love for you and direct you to the truth.

That last part is absolutely true. There are real villains out there.Who will never change. Too many developers been trying to make sympathetic villains.  Like bro or woman. Your village getting destroyed is bad but that doesn't give you the right to destroy the planet.
