It's not even just the controls. Why do we need to wiggle our mouse just right to push numbers on keypads? Why do we need to very slowly and tediously fine tune the controls on the console to focus on signals, something that is at the core of the gameplay? Why do we need three different methods of inventory grab/hold/use? It's tedium for the sake of "immersion", and it's a surefire way of alienating the vast majority of people who don't want their games to run like an OS.

Sorry but as good as this game has been reported to be, I can't get over the godawful decisions around the controls. Especially with the filter screen on the main console. I quit in the tutorial because to be honest, having such a fiddling control mechanism may be "immersive" but this is not an imsim. you don't need to duplicate the controls of the original System Shock to have a great experience. Everything else going on in this game is fantastic but I can't get over just how awful these controls are. I hope there are plans to overhaul them because it's a shame that such a terrific game is held back by its mechanics.
i know there's a beta strictly for Ubuntu based users but considering there are as many distros of Linux as there are stars in the sky, the program would benefit greatly from having an AppImage instead of a tar setup. I tried making the file, but of course since I have a Fedora based distro, it isn't compiling.
