Thank you very much for playing and giving a review.
Im glad you had a little fun while playing.
I can defenetly understand your critique, and will work on a bigger update that will work with your suggestions.
As for the issues and uncomfortabilities you faced:
- I will remove empty boxes fully in the coming update, since they seem to be annoying and confusing.
There are 5 diffrent possiblities for a box:
1. Empty
2. Mine
3. Speed-boost
4. Damge-boost
5. Shield
I will choose diffrent sprites to make it less harder to understand what you just picked up.
- The mines were supposed to explode, so that was a bug. I found it and will fix it in the next update.
- I will make keyboard-buttons modifyable so you can choose your own buttons comfortably.
- I will implement a fully new system of gameplay with diffrent characters instead of (or with) skins, that have diffrent abilities, which you can upgrade for each character individually.
I will also add diffrent worlds (instead of just diffrent maps that just change the background of the game) with diffrent enemies and bosses.
Talking about the bosses, I will try to make it look more like its attacking and make its movements more predictable. I might also give the player the chance to restart the bossfight instead of re-playing the whole thing.
- I will also add an endless-mode to make climbing the leaderboard more fun.
I'll probably add a leaderboard for each world too, where the faster you beat it, the higher you climb on the leaderboard.
- And I will also make sure to make the shooting less exhausting (like auto-shooting for a while or smth, like you said), while trying to keep the game unique in its clicking-attacks.
Thank you for your useful feedback. Only that made it worth submitting the game here.
Now, finally with a second opinion and critique to work with to improve the game and make it feel more comfortable and smooth, I have a lead where to go with it and something to work on for the next while.
Thank you for your time.
Its defenetly a great starter.
I would suggest you learn to how create a start menu to learn how to handle scenes better.
Then you can add win/lose/pause etc.
Also, note (for the future) that collision box (with walls/ground) is usually pixel-precise so thew character doesnt float, while the hitbox (hurtbox) is usually smaller than the player sprite itself.
Its quite challenging. Couldnt make the big jump even with full load-up.
The car bounced too much and the rails made you get stuck sometimes.
It defenetly has a fun-factor.
But I think it needs some textures and sounds.
I also encountered a bug where I would just slip through the rails and fall down over and over again.
And also a slight visual-bug. Had to restarts it.
Sorry for the crashes. Tested it this time more properly and it should work.
The attacking just requiers clicking because I couldnt think of something better.
I tried enhancing the indicator by adjusting the little explosion-effect when you attack an enemy and increasing the attack-sound volume.
Thank you for playtesting and giving a review 🤝
Hey, thanks for trying it out.
I noticed the first bug where it shows an error message after it sends the verification email.
I will look further into it andfix this issue.
As for shooting/attacking, you have to aim (the red circle that moves with the mouse) and click. simple as that.
You can click on the "Help"-button on the menu-screen to find the basic instructions like "Controls".

And lastly, as for the second screen that pops-up and plays the videos, I will work on it and make it play in the same window.
For me it was never an issue while debugging since I had just one screen/monitor and the video-window would pop-up and cover everything else below it.
Thanks for playtesting again. But I noticed you were not on the leaderboard yet?
Maybe its because you need to click the refresh button (the small green button) so your score gets listed there too.
I will look further into it and make it automaticly update the scores in the leaderboard.
If you encounter any other problems or issues, feel free to share. It helps me a lot!
I will shortly upload the updated version with the bug-fixes, so stay tuned!
I see this jam isnt really very much alive, but maybe thats what everyone is thinking and thats why nobody is joining?
I dont expect much of posting my game here. But if someone reading this (maybe @gamesforfun) tries it out and gives me feedback, I would really appreciate it.
Nine Lives Left is a project I started working on around october 2024, never thinking I would work for it longer than a month.
Its a game I put much effort in and tried making decent. Actually the only project I created and can call "decent".
I stopped working on the game between the months, mosty because nobody played it. Around a month ago or two I refined some mechanics and graphics and tried promoting the game somehow (posting it in diffrent jams after making sure it wont break the rules; posting it on reddit).
But even when I did start getting views and few downloads, nobody actually played the game.
How I know? Its probably the reason nobody played it?
Its connected to an online database to save the user progress. And to do so, the user needs to create an account using an email adress (also set a username and password). Now, I think most people are just uncomfortable with that (eventhough I wont even know their email adress)?
In adding the email-login I thought further, of allowing password-resets etc. But my motivation died long ago, so yeah. I havent added it and will probably never.
Anyways, I could see that there were 0 registered users in the db (besides myself), and I knew everyone just went ahead and deleted the game after seeing it needed email-auth.
(But seriously, if you're scared I can do whatever with your email, go ahead and use www.mailinator.com for a fake email)
That said, go ahead and give it a try. (The leaderboard will thank you for refreshing it)

The game has great choice of colors and used the theme well. (Great game idea!)
Graphics are good (given the fact that you created them).
Unfortunately there are no sounds and the dificulty-level doesnt increase with time. Also it would be better if honeycombs dont fill the hunger-bar completely. If you continue working on the game you might also add another food-types (each type fills hunger-bar with diffrent ammount).
Keep up the work!
