1) material things are meaningless when you are depressed

2) when someone is depressed, something so simple as leaving a message can be seen as insurmountable. 

I'm sad you didn't like the game, but as someone who clearly hasn't experienced depression in their lives, maybe this can help you to be more open and understanding whenever someone you love is going through it. Take care
