Hi, we just updated the demo and moved the arm to the right. thanks for that! We’ll take note about sound design and see what we can do. For now, at least the music/SFX sliders work better, so you can make it quieter

We recently joined "Micro Jam 042" and once again learned that trying to add tons of content to a jam game in just 48 hours is a bad idea.

The theme was "Frogs" with prerequisite "mouse input only". We didn’t plan anything ahead and waited for the jam to start. After brainstorming, we mixed our favorite ideas into one game -- Frogonomicon.

We actually finished most of what we planned, but poor time management hurt us. We spent ~5 hours making a physics-based frog tongue and tried giving 24 insect types unique AI. Because of that, we had no time left to test. We submitted the game just 29 seconds before the deadline.

When we launched the build, it had bugs: broken saves, messed up spawns, overlapping UI, and unbalanced shop economy.

Still, for a 48-hour game, we’re proud. We made all sounds, music, graphics, code, and animations during the jam. Even with issues, we got 4th in the community vote (1st in concept!) and 5th from the judges. And even got a certificate 😁️️

Now we’re thinking about whether it’s worth turning this idea into a full game with better controls, a story, quests, and more.

We were in a big rush to add everything we came up with. Even made 25+ insects with unique behavior, but we didn’t have time to properly place them on the map. We really liked the idea ourselves, so we’ll update the game as soon as we can 🐸

Hey, cool game!

Just wanted to share. We had the same issue with sound.
Whenever you press a key or click the mouse, there's some sound lag. In our last jam game, we had application/run/max_fps set to 60, and that ended up causing the sound problems.

Позволим себе комментарии по косякам:

1. Про спасение случайного человека-геймдизайнера. Наш герой просто пытался найти себе сообщника для побега, но увидев человека в беде, даже не смотря на своё отвращение к нему не смог "пройти мимо". Поступил как любой добрый человек. Мотивация у него как человека с отшибленной памятью - спастись и быть человеком

2. Полностью согласен про перспективу, хорошая параллель про баттлтоадс. Это как раз первое что пришло в голову, по этому и было реализовано уже на позднем часу разработки с кипящей головой. Но в целом, добавляет "нерва" сцене побега.

3. По поводу динамита в заднице - в концовке, которая кончается диалогом про динами,  корабль пришельцев довольно красочно и долго взрывается. Конечно же там есть взрыв. Такие чеховские ружья нельзя оставлять :D. Возможно просто перепутали с другой концовкой.

Благодарим за конструктивную критику. По поводу развития этой истории пока не уверены, есть другие проекты, которые требуют неотложного внимания. Но рады, что удалось сделать эту историю реальной в рамках джема.

Спасибо! Про инпут пробела — да, добавляли его в последнюю ночь уже, чтобы если вдруг кто-то захочет в раннере нажать, то он работал. Пусть лучше будет доп инпут, чем фрустрация от неработающего прыжка на пробел.

А про сюжет — можно сопоставить обе концовки и понять зачем это все было и почему. Не будем тут спойлерить)
