My aim was to create a brand new fresh song that wasn't a directly cover of the original, but had certain elements from the original song to make it fit the game. 

If your expectations were a 1-to-1 "cover song" of the old Giana Sisters tune by Chris H, then I get you.

Would not work on disk because? I am thinking of the "Sparkle 2" IRQ-loader solution by Sparta/GP. I presume that would have worked?
