I think pretty much due to certain changes in the code between versions they just aren't compatible, if you had the last version before current than it should "upgrade" the save to the new version but otherwise I think too much changes after a few versions that it just can't fix it

The idea is cool and I'll admit I'd like those features too, the way that the game is designed simply wouldn't make it feasible, think about every scene as a picture (pretty much is), for every outfit any character has a variant of each scene would have to be made, which means that even just having one extra outfit for the MC for most of the duration of the game would nearly double the size of the game (exaggerated).

Patreon or Discord are your two best options, otherwise just check here like every fortnight or so
