I played through the Steam build. An experimental art piece with some moody music and sound design. Obviously a labour of love, and deeply personal. I played through the whole thing and I found it interesting. But I don't think I'm interested in playing through again.
I was resistant to writing any review at all. In the end, I don't think I really *liked* it. I was curious for most of the game's run time--about how it would land, what it would do next, how the pieces might come together. But in the end it didn't really land for me emotionally.
But given how the game ends, I wanted to say something about my experience. First, I really liked the final two set pieces. The spinning red light / tall pillars created a wonderful disorienting relation to the space. And the darkness after--that sense of not knowing up from down. The music did a good job building tension. The increasing interference of the background noise and the worry that it would eventually stop me from knowing where to go next.
Anyway, the creator clearly has passion and capability, and the only way to make art better is to keep making it. So I hope they find the time, support and space to keep going.
