I like the concept! Kinda like Ultimate Chicken Horse but solo. Only issue I has was that giving me the freedom place the obstacle anywhere made is easy to just place things well out of the way. I think it would be pretty good and challenging to maybe have predefined places to set the traps, so you have no choice but to put them in your path.
Also, I love that boi
Interesting concept, and great artwork. I think this has the potential for some interesting puzzles, but ultimately I resorted to clicking randomly until something worked. I feel it would have been better if the text had been more concise. There's just too much reading, and it didn't really make sense what I was supposed to be doing.
The visuals and the audio are great! There are a few things I would say are hurting the gameplay however. The speed combined with the camera doesn't work so well. Because the camera follows way behind when you run, I'm practically looking behind me and can't see anything in front. I feel like this is meant to be a fast paced action game, but that camera makes feel like I have to take baby steps just to see what's in front of me. I think the combat is ok, but I can tell it would have been great with a little more feedback. When your attack hits, giving some kind of audio queue, hit flash, particle effect, or even a "clash" animation with some bounce back would have made the combat feel so good. As it is, I was unsure most of the time if my attacks were even doing anything.
The BEST part of this game by far is the boss. I love the boss behavior patters and the variety of actions. Definitely has a much more enjoyable experience fighting the boss, and again it would have been SO much more awesome with that attack feedback.
The music and the artwork are the highlights here. It looks gorgeous, the music is fun, and even small details like the menu buttons and audio sliders are very creative. Gameplay wise is where it drops a little. It's simple sure, but this is one of those cases where it would have been more fun if the difficulty ramped up a lot quicker. It was just too easy too long, which I guess fit the narrative of getting tired of that repetitive loop.
I felt like I was playing a commercial product. Everything from the art, sound, and the controls all felt like professional. Also right from the beginning, as I moved around the place, it gave a very ominous vibe. I was genuinely on edge, and the first time I saw something move I noped right back to the previous room.
Thanks for playing! Yes you made it out of the woods haha. I just didn't have time to create a proper ending so I figured that's good enough.
Yeah I agree about the characters only facing right and left. I started out with those sprites thinking "If I have time, I'll go back and edit the sprites to faces up and down as well." lol
All of the visuals are great! Everything moves and controls nicely. However, I hate to say it but the gameplay was a bit boring. Like, I thought "Surely I'm missing something right?" I found myself waiting around for something to happen, and then when something does appear, I deal with it quickly and then I'm back to waiting. I feel like if the enemies came in greater numbers and/or dashing was your only movement option, it would make the game more engaging. You've got a good foundation with which to build a great bullet hell!
Very nice game! The visuals and audio are great, and the simple controls make it easy to jump right in. My one issue is those darn ice cream cones. Why they take two hits? I feel that makes it feel difficult in an unfair way since usually multiple will come at the same time, and the time it takes for them to hit the planet is barely enough time to hit them twice, and that's on top of all the rest of the enemies. Other than that, good job!
Fundamentally, the concept is very interesting. I know you said you had more mini games planned, so I would really like see the game as intended. I imagine each step down the line would have it's own unique mini game, and maybe have a timer to add some tension to complete the hacking process quickly.
With what you managed to get done though, very good job!
Very good style and mechanics! My biggest issue was with the perspective in certain areas, especially when controlling the little guy with his limited field of vision. Some spots looked like I could walk on to a platform, only to then fall. And that's even with rotating to check every angle. Otherwise, pretty fun!
