Reminds me of a modern version of the early 1980s action dungeon crawler "Gateway to Apshai" which was part of the Dunjonquest series.

Obviously, the more variety of monsters, the better. Hidden traps and puzzles are always a win as well. A variety of dungeon environments would be nice with varied colors etc. I would even add low res sampled sounds for your hero and the monsters like the good old days before sound cards were a thing. Maybe some low bitrate/khz grainy sounds when the hero gets hit or a monster approaches etc. Both those games I mention above were pre Zelda of course.
One thing I did find frustrating about the controls (using the keyboard) is casting spells seems awkward. The character always seems to want to cast to the right. It should stay at what direction I'm facing. Unless I'm missing something. Also, the sound for picking up coin is a bit muted and hard to hear. I find the colors of the dungeon map a bit dark compared to the HUD in the top left corner. Maybe that was intentional? These are just nitpick observations. I'll keep playing when time allows.
I really like 2D action RPGs like this so I'm looking forward to see how this progresses.
