The gameplay of level 2's last part is pure RNG. Sometimes he'll do a random third check slightly after the first 2 checks just to throw you off. Also checking the door is completely useless because of the damn patience bar that gives you 0 room to breathe. If it wasn't for the patience bar or how quickly it drains the game could involve actual strategy but definitely not in it's current state
