ok actual review now:
not very odd tbh, ive been in the world before, im actually in the world right now, oddness is like relatively different from what ive experienced and even though the game itself takes place in a place that is inheritly odd the game keeps on talking about the world itself which is quite possibly the least odd place i can physically imagine
also i have a hard time trying to figure out what decisions lead to what, and sometimes it felt a little jank with like the endings and stuff (instead of fading to white or red sometimes it would just stay on justicia) but thats not really a huge deal tbh.
other than that, this game is great! sam's gettin a pretty authory presentationy diet with a lot of beautiful artsy games!
moment i got the red ending i was like... thats bonejacq, thats just bone, like, bonejacqaline incarnate. that specific ending was inspired by bone and bone alone.
i hate math.
that being said, i think the art is really cool, and the math isnt too bad compared to the stuff i see in school.
the audio hurts my ears but your really commited to the nes style here to the point where you would rather make my ears bleed than stray from the nes style and for that i have to give you extra points in audio
also the cursor got a good laugh out of me
also "i just LOVE odd numbers" :sob: :sob: :sob: :wilted_rose: :wilted_rose: :wilted_rose: thats so funny
really fun puzzle game! sam's gettin a pretty puzzley presentationy diet here, all these games are so cool and like atmospheric and make you think pretty hard
actually the fucking game saving even when i close the window is such a nice detail i put an extra star in theme because i was like "holy shit thats really odd and cool and i like that and nomrally i would have put an extra star in presentation but i ran out of stars to put there so ill put that in theme"
one time in vc i was playing the game and said "i think i want 5" and my friend started quoting the fucking zen bhuddism thing of like "to wand something is to be ruled by it, all of your actions lead to having 5, 5 dominates you, 5 controls you, you are ruled by 5" and that was really funny.
and so when i got 5 i just said "i like 5" and they were like "but it appears 5 doesnt like you back"
fun memories
these puzzles were actually REALLY well designed, and i can tell this was a labour of love right here. you guys did an amazing job, i had so much fun, and i would have given 5 stars in gameplay/fun if that was an option
that being said i still havn't finished it because theres a LOT more content here than most jam games (not a bad thing!) so im posting my review a little early and moving on to the other games, but i had a lot of fun and i will definitely come back to this when im done with the other stuff
yea i dont really know what i was thinking submitting a game that required parsec and 3 people that both have free time at the same time or a fancy keyboard with 3 extra people in person that live near each other and have free time at the same time 💀
bro i tried to start a new paragraph and im soflocked into italic it litterally wont let me NOT type in italics no matter how many times i press the button
ok its fixed now but i was gonna say that it was a really bad idea to make a 4 player puzzle game when getting 4 people together is hard because then people play it alone and then they get spoiled on all the puzzles so then its like the bread is half spoiled and the other half is still there because you havnt like put it out in the sun yet ([played it) and so its like i designed the bread expecting the whole thing to be put out in the sun at once (played) bit everybodys spoiling the half they can play alone and then they half the other half
IM NOT MAKING ANY SENSE THIS ANALOGY IS HORRIBLE I HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
anyway im gonna play ur game next when i can!
yea wait this is really cool???
like, unfathomably cool??????
i would talk more about the story but i dont really wanna spoil it, if you want more of my thoughts you can dm me on discord! (my name on the server is sequel boy)
at first i hated this theme but im realising its generating some AESTHETIC games like this one
this thing is oozing with style, from the menu alone the simple replacement of "Start" to "Create", and "Quit" to "Refuse" instantly beams you with the kinda vibes this game is hittin u with
the music really makes you FEEL like your watching the world get made by the gods themselves, and i love the detail that the music just shifts ever so slightly from the main menu to the actual game, and im not sure but i think extra instruments get added in when you start summoning guys? which is an AMAZING detail if it is true, and theres just SOOOO much care put into the audio visual.
speaking of the audio visual, HOLY SHIT THE VISUAL PRESENTATION, DAMN THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL
a good measure of a games worth is how much attention to detail is in the water (joke i dont actually believe that water is all that matters) and by god you made each tile shift up and down on random intervals from each other and shoot little particles beneath them in a weird isometric view without any like obvious screw ups THIS IS SO PRETTY AND COOL AND EFFORT FILLED AHHH I LOVE IT
there is a similair level of effort put into the other graphical elements of the thing its just so STYLISH it's just OOZING with STYLE and VIBES and AHGHHAGHEHGHRHGRHHRGHHGHH
i love the way you like made the pixels crunch up when zooming out i love the way the different types of tiles mesh with eachother on the screen i love the paralax background THIS IS COOOLL
very unique concept, i would say that the beggining of the universe being formed by the gods themselves is pretty odd, and its dope too
i would say the only thing this game is weak in is gameplay but that DOESNT MATTER because theres NOT A RATING FOR IT which means according to the sam jam rating system this game is PERFECT
btw if u dont have ppl to play this with you should like ask in the comment section to find ppl who are willing to play with parsec with you because even though the game *can* technically be played alone thats not the intended way to consume it and i want you guys to experience the vision i had in mind :)
actually fucking goated, i hope this wins
i already told u some of this in disc but this game genuinly understands "slick" on a fundamental level, instead of uniquely interpreting the theme you go for the brute force approach of directly applying it in the most unapolagetic way. you have baked it down to a science the concept of slickness. this game is filled with those punchy "WHOA NEW MECHANIC" moments that make you the developer look COOL AS FUCK. every time im introduced to a new thing in this game it feels like im 3 and watching jingling keys. also the SCHMOOOVEEMENT is so goooooooddddd yummmmmmmmmmm.
the visual design is so *crisp* and tony is i think the most swag individual known *to man*, and i just fucking love funky jet set radio songs so like this game was visually and auditorily a treat.
i love shit like this, i love me some SA2, i love me some speedrun games, i love me a score and a ranking system, i love me a little arcade skill based "single player competetive", this is litterally made for me specifically.
if i had to opportunity to submit to this jam, i would have given this game 5 stars in every catagory, because its just unironically the best game. you have consistently made the best game (imo) 2 years in a row holy shit
idk how to put gifs in itch.io but imagine like the jesse pinkman "HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THISSSSS"
this game is awesome man...
its like if sonic adventure 2 was a warm blanket with some hot cocoa
your physics engine understands the innate feeling of being 7 years old so well that i genuinly feel nostalgia (running around in grassy fields and hitting things on accident type beat). nostalgia from a PHYSICS ENGINE
v excited for paper sky and hope your game development journey goes long and far (unless you decide that you dont like gamedev or something (which is fine then i just hope your creative journey in general goes far (unless you decide to do something not creative idk i hope you enjoy where you end up (i kinda hope that of everyone actually but you get the point right?))))
tysm mannnnn (oh and is the music available anywhere?)
the horses werent a fundamental part of the human condition, or the way we express ourselves and our experiences. Cars didnt do litteral theft of horse innards without the tamer permission. u dont gotta play the luddite card against HUMAN SELF EXPRESSION. you suck
if ai is "inevitable" then we will do our best postpone that shit until the universe ends and then some
