I'd like an invincibility mode. It'd be great for getting used to the controls and enjoying the sprites.

This update would be the best the game has ever known in my opinion, were ever to become real.
Even after meticulously setting up max level variants of eight of each vessel (both official and modded), I still end up deleting the game from my desktop within a day or two anyways because all of the enemy turns are just so slow. The more familiar I become with the game, the more brutally waiting around erodes my engagement.
Heck, I wouldn't even care to know what the enemy even did after using that hypothetical skip button. This is definitely my #1 desire for this game and I hope the team will at least consider it.
Before I say anything: Nice heart. I heart your heart.
I love the idea of a successor of this game that does much of the same gacha things and has the same quality artwork, the gameplay almost certainly being different. I imagine the core of the game being baby stealing, in which you send units to get even more pregnant by (probably magically) stealing the unborn children of other units; every battle being a gamble that could result in even more offspring in the making! I wouldn’t mind returning faces either; particularly ready-to-breed Goblin.
I get when you mean. As colorful as the game is, it really is about women who kill each other all the time, and seeing such young looking faces in the fray probably triggers a "hold up" in your mind. Your reaction reminds me of past moments in my life where I realized I needed to set better boundaries for my vore intake, and perhaps the same is happening for you. A specific example I'll share is when I got to a place called the Harpy Village, if I remember right, in a free game called Nyan Adventures. It gave you the option of playing hide and seek with a child harpy, and if you found her, you had the option of eating her, hearing her die in you, AND witnessing her mother's concern for her missing little one, which the game mocks if you talk to the mother while full with her daughter. Seriously, if you're an RPGMaker kinda guy, that game is great for scrutinizing yourself and seeing what kinds of vore aren't for you.
Since Atlas is here publicly, it's time I rank her as well.
I'm putting her in B. Her dedication is amazing and I hope the marriage feature to come will make other characters inch closer to it! What holds her back is her outfit - the spacey Zero Suit Samus type stuff has never been able to reach much of a sweet spot for me personally, but I still think it's attractive and practical.
Also, this update has caused me to realized just how much of a mother Dusk Lamia has become over me. Not seeing her on the lobby by default was a very CURSED experience! >_<
Vessels are able to have one more prey than their limit if they eat a vessel who already has her own prey, and the three lamia (snake tail) characters are each worth one more capacity point since they're big like that.
Example: If your vessel has 4/5 prey, and you command her to eat a vessel who isn't a lamia and has one prey already inside her, she will end up with a 6/5 tummy if the attack is successful. Recycle this example but your target is instead a lamia, and it will still be true only if your attacking vessel has 3/5 prey instead, because again lamias are one extra capacity point because of their largeness.
This'll happen in the lobby at times because your vessels will automatically feed themselves with vessels you never possessed while you're on the battlefield. In fact if you go to the part of the lobby where you feed your vessels, you can see which exact vessels she gobbled down while you were away!
I think this is one of those things that's easier done than said, so let me know if you still don't quite get it!
Maybe it's a matter of application compatibility. Here's what you could try:
Open up your Vessel Tactics game folder and right-click the application simply called Vessel Tactics - the one with the purple-haired character's face. Right-click that, and then click "Show more options" and then "Properties". This should open up a window that has "General", "Compatibility", "Security", etc... on the top. Click compatibility and make sure the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" has a check in it. Right below that you can open up a list of a bunch of things that each begin with Windows. (Windows 95, Windows 7, etc...) One by one, click a Windows you haven't tried before and then click the Apply at the bottom right of the window, attempting to launch the game each time. The hope of this method is that one of those Windows compatibility modes will work with the game. The game runs for me with the default of Windows 8.
Yeah, the way I play is really story based. I typically game according to my headcanon in which I lead the originals of each character, and there are unauthorized clones of them running amok known as vessels who are responsible for much slander and apparently flavor. I limit myself to sending one of each character at a time and am wholeheartedly against teammates devouring each other. It’s less efficient to play this way, but I think it makes for a good story, and so I always open the game ready to struggle.
Hey all, this is a tier list I wanted to made for fun and to show appreciation for the game! It's directed towards my personal wife compatibility and is based on version 0.11 because I sadly don't live the kind of life where I can support something like this with clear conscience. And there aren't any S or F tiers because I don't think any of these characters are perfectly perfect or terribly terrible. I'd also love to read how anyone else might tactically arrange these vessels!
[ A Tier ]: Dusk Lamia, Covenant
Omg, I love these two. Never before have I seen artwork in which lamia anatomy is so spot-on! And it shines best in Dusk Lamia. Not only is she a truly beautiful creature, but she's also motherly in all the right places, and I'm really into that. And it's really easy for someone like Covenant to win me over because I'm a Christian. She's no fellowbeliever, but all of her phrases really tickle my fancy. A YouTube video gave me a peek at her Halloween costume, and all I have to say is: You guys were cooking.
[ B Tier ]: Avalon, Goblin Lord, Schrodinger, Lamia, Sampo, Goblin
Avalon is among the characters who would be more endearing to me if only her presence wasn't her duty and little else more. She's great and very sexy though. Goblin Lord is held back by the very thing that makes her cute, which is her tsundereness. I'm glad she goes half-and-half with confidence too, and her placement here is moreso just the result of the characters not really growing. The fact that she's so darn powerful in battle despite it all is very attractive. Schrodinger I adore, but her geekiness can get old. I wish Lamia was a bit more substantial personality wise and lacked scales on her human half, but she's high quality and reminds me of Jashin-chan and Rupee from Nikke in all of the best ways. Sampo I adore conceptually - hard to find a hungry tsundere! - but her weakness gameplay wise really drains her quickly for me. If you removed the battle part of Vessel Tactics, she'd be an A. Goblin is a lovely little munchkin; I can't get enough of that big smile! And she wants kids - I don't think any other vessel wants kids. Catch up, ladies!
[ C Tier ]: Theano, Chateau, Goblin Shaman, Cornucopia, Patra, Cheshire
Theano is a neat one. The only character in the game whom I prefer to have in her alt outfit. I think gym girls are pretty one-note, but her protectiveness is a good charm. Cheateau is splendid, a "heavy hitter" in all of the right ways, but since so much of her is founded upon money-service I unfortunately have to bring her down low. Goblin Shaman was a D for a very good while since I first started playing, but I've warmed up to her, and that bit of lore that confirms that she's younger than she looks really helps her out. Cornucopia is a little too "branded" for me with how often she sees herself is a penny in the register. She'd easily be a B if she wasn't so void of self-esteem. Patra, like Sampo, is very beautiful conceptually but is ass as a unit. Cheshire I just like, and the fact that she's the one person who won't spit you out if you head on in is the sexy kind of deadly to me.
[ D Tier ]: Wild Lamia, Goblin Raider
These two are rough and dirty. I don't like 'em. But I'd turn to them on a creative or desperate day.
I like the idea of the mermaid being able to escape if she currently has a power-up that is still going while she’s in the shark’s belly.
Struggling with cajun would add red pulses to the shark’s belly, struggling with eel would just teleport you out and would require the least effort and there’d of course be the electric effect around the shark’s stomach, squid depend on if you have at least one clone available and the escape would only work if the size of two mermaids exceeded the shark’s max belly size, and with the pufferfish you’d see spikes poking the sharks’s belly during the struggle.
Even if actually escaping shouldn’t be a thing, the added layer of the power-ups adding to the struggle would be really cool to see.
Dude, bruh, and BRO. This update is so good that the excitement it gave me perfectly rivaled my reaction to finally receiving Geometry Dash 2.1 all those years ago! The game is half the price it should be now!
I played Shark Hunt before clicking anything else and I’m glad it did, as it made for a great introduction to the new stuff. The difficulty of Shark Hunt right now, I think, is quite steep in 2 or 3 levels. But it arms you up good and proper for shark dodging and racking up your score according to certain patterns. The new skins are beautiful and right now I think they’re even sexier than what was already available. I will forever dub this the Bubble Update. You put them everywhere - even in the shark’s hair, WHAT! It looks great though. Iconic for the game for sure. Pufferfish is awesome but I don’t think anything will ever beat the cajun in my book. Squid has my favorite altered mermaid design; looks more dressy, and I like it more than the eel. That little bit of lore on the background of Exodus was so cool too.
Two things: Whatever happened to the reddening of the skin upon consuming a cajun, and how do you feel about the idea of the mines instantly digesting a small portion of fish upon swallowing them?
Hey I just had two ideas; one small and one large.
The small idea is an option to disable the music so I can just hear the gulps and gurgles.
The large idea is an internal belly view that shows which fish are currently in the mermaid’s tummy, swimming around in there and then disappearing. I guess the best place for it would be the top left since the pause button is on the top right.
The past couple of comments seem worried. Just wanna point out that only a few comments down HungryBelly mentioned a break from coding, and that it would be a bit until next update. Every hardworking engine needs cooling!
On an unrelated note, I also want to say that I’ve gone from hating the shark to loving her more than I love the mermaid. It is an inescapable arc. All Hungry Mermaid Cruise players are fated to fulfill it. >:)
My version of the Quick bug fix / gameplay update is super cursed. xD Seconds after starting I’m stalked by one beautiful shark lady twice my size, and she immediately strikes again when she reaches an edge of the screen. She does this 6 times in a row and for some crazy reason completely locks on to my x axis on the 7th strike and is completely unavoidable. o_o
They sure do make a nice hook! I took no interests in tampering with the files of Mugen and Friday Night Funkin’ until sensual characters appeared for said games. I put myself through hours and hours of experience so I could get them to work for myself, and it was always worth it. I feel like I can do a few other things with the files I encountered if I really wanted. Pathways can start from all kinds of areas.
Your game is awesome. I saw a little bit of gameplay on YT and I was like Alright, I need to have this. As a kid who enjoyed those fish-eat-fish games and as an adult who thinks mermaids are swell, I've low-key been waiting for years upon years for a game like this be made. I hope more of these pop up in the future because this is such an easy concept not many people have been willing to entertain.
2 things:
Could you make it so pressing an arrow key or the spacebar works just like clicking does? The controls are very good on their own, but having this as an option would be super cool as well.
Do you plan to add to add any lore for at least the playable mermaid? I'd love to know her name and her story and how she looks like from the back and if there's another bracelet on her other arm... like a short a sweet bio would be pretty cool.
