The yellow pulse lighting is cool, walking speed is fine. The biggest problems for me are direction and lighting. I walked around for a bit with no clue where I was going - the compass in the top right seems unreliable and I'm not sure what it points to. I think placing the compass in the player's hand and having it point to gems would be good, but maybe a little too hand-holding. Having some ambient light come off the player would also be nice, just enough to see a foot or two. This would help players avoid walking into walls. Speaking of walls! Color coding them would be very helpful in helping a player navigate. You could have each section of the map have different wall colors (yellow, red, grey, brown). You could also try having the player character talk or be talked to - could help establish lore, develop the player's character.
