Review time!

A decent entry. The presentation and horror was fantastic, but the gameplay left much to be desired: no puzzles, no real exploration or sense of discovery either. In my opinion, the gameplay greatly hindered every other part of the game.

The game is played more like a choose-your-own-adventure style game rather than an RPG maker game, and I fail to see the advantage of it. It made the game less scary as all the horror was interrupted by walls of text and having to wait for your character to move all the way. This also made the game appear bigger than it is as you often have the ability to choose two or three paths only for only one of them leading forwards the others being a dead end. It also ended really abruptly and I'm not sure if I could have done something else but after trying again I failed the same way. There is also this chase sequence with the nurse, but after I completed that there seemed to be no story or gameplay relevance as I ended up in a place I could walk to anyway. All of this made me rate the gameplay poorly.

Now, the story was very interesting. It's split in a goofy bit where the teenagers challenge the little kid which gives the game a mask of not taking itself seriously, which is quickly thrown off when you actually enter the hospital: a great contrast. I have read all the notes but don't fully feel like I grasp the story, but I do have some idea of what happened in there and it wasn't good (child experimenting?). The game also had plenty of scares, being the most scary of all the entries.

A very solid entry and definitely one of my favourites! The art and presentation was excellent and the story was interesting as well accompanied by lovely music. The gameplay was decent but certainly had some flaws. The canvas back in the beginning looked odd though...

One notable flaw was the whole fetch-quest section in the beginning. Finding all the paints was doable but I got stuck for way too long on finding that tool I needed to remove the painting. It would be nice to have either a visual clue as to where it is in the form of sparkles or a physical item, or at least a hint (which is why the paints was doable: just search all the boxes). Another annoying thing with that fetch quest was all the items you needed for the plants, as there was no direction for what precisely you needed. Having to remember all the keys was a neat idea too, but this wouldn't translate well into a big game you can't complete in a single sitting so keep that in mind. But other puzzles were great! I really like the one where you had to recreate the scene from the picture, however, I would have preferred having to put the correct item down yourself (like in the statue puzzle, however would have liked it if it was not just the one item), or even having to remember the precise location and doing it from the item menu.

As for the horror aspect... It wasn't that scary, but that's okay. It did have some really disturbing moments with the car crash especially, and the monster had an interesting design, but the chase itself wasn't that interesting. The threat of what was behind the door was neat but it didn't really do it for me. The story was integrated neatly by the horror and I think that the monster was only a hallucination due to the past trauma, but this could be wrong. I liked the fact that the appartment broke open at one point and went into a garden, that looked cool.

Other minor complaints:

  • Having to wait for the cellphone tune to play out every time.

But I had a great time! Would love to see more of you.

Going live now! Feel free to join.

Your window dimensions are incorrect.

Go to the game upload page and change window dimensions to (as long as you haven't changed this):

Width: 816 and Height: 624

I am unable to launch the game.

I get the error RGSS-RTP Standard not found.

Is anyone able to help me?

Thank you for playing it, seemed like you enjoyed yourself! Also, you have a good eye for the easter eggs.

Thank you for playing it! Yes, I took a lot of inspiration from those games. Casual mode was implemented because all of my playtesters were complaining, haha. Also it's not actually a beta, it's release... Silly me forgot to remove that.

Hello everyone, the game jam has ended and all submissions are now submitted. I hope you all had fun making them! Now, I thought it would be a fun idea to livestream all of the entries of this jam and give my thoughts on them on Monday 6 pm CEST on https://www.twitch.tv/kitty_saya. Feel free to join me in chat, or if you aren't comfortable with me streaming your game let me know. If anyone else is planning on streaming or recording, feel free to let me know.

Yes, it is completly fine.

I was planning on livestreaming all entries myself.

Can you give me the link?

Hello, I am nearly ready to upload my project. However, I am not sure how I should license it. I've tried reading the GNU Lesser EULA but I can't wrap my head around all the legal brabble. Are there any special things I need to do? I did use some third-party assets, all of which have CC-BY licenses, and if possible I'd like for my game to have something like that as well.
