i love their dynamic in this so much! i love how genzou is so obviously being manipulative ('obviously manipulative' being an oxymoron) but the fact that iggy is being so genuine with him makes him feel guilty and that sweet iggy deserves the whole entire world and all the games ever (at least that's what i gathered hehe) 

the ending...bro...how iggy just wanted to be "normal" and was just going to lay there and let it happen...and the guilt on genzous face when he asks if they can just cuddle....it made my heart tear up a bit ngl...

the spritework is AWESOME!!!! there might have been some in a side game i haven't played yet but this is the first time I'm ever seeing iggy sprites!!!!! they're all so so cute i love them soo much the little fidget hand thing he does is amazing i love it smsmsm

i love phoebe so much tho!!! she's such a neat character, i loved how her sprite moved around, it felt really natural and fluid! the way she spoke really felt so real, it added to the vibe so well!!!

she felt so spooky, but also so natural and average, while also being a really unique feeling gal, she's so neat! :D

i also have the mild feeling she's self aware hmmm...when she asked if we had anything to say before the test i asked "why is the window blacked out? is there no sky?" and she was like "alright! :3" and then later on she was like "it's always dark here where i am, do you see stars?" and i was like joernjoernonojnfornf

i love this little story. it somehow resonated with me so much. the writing really feels like it comes from the heart. 

today i was just lamenting and, if I'm being honest, kind of berating myself for having so many things i can do that would be good and fun, and then not doing them. that ending was so nice to hear...like...well huh...maybe *i* can go write some too...

also the living off of your parents allowance and little money from the internet is so real i did a double take with that line like ok wow hitting a little too close to home there ;3;

i. i simply have no words. that is a lie i have many words because AHHHHHHHHHH this game. this game it just...speaks to me. i honestly didn't realize what was happening until later in the game...like arc 4...maybe even until it was over. 

this whole game felt so natural, all the characters feel so alive, like they're living inside of my itty bitty computer. this entire world. and the ENDING. gosh the ending...

...my whole life i've had these 'deje-vu' like moments that i have never been able to explain, where i could have just sworn i had already done something before. where i had a feeling i was supposed to do something...that i had already done. like it just felt like the right thing to do. and I've always told myself that that feeling means i'm doing the right thing, doing what i was meant to do. 

this game feels so comforting to that feeling...it feels like this game is telling me what I'm doing is right, like i've learned and am doing the best i can. 

honestly, i feel extremely connected to iggy, not only cause...you know...ace. but just that feeling like not knowing what he wants. like you've made mistakes that you can't go back from. just floating through life not really doing much, not really thinking...

this game is one of the most inspiring things i've experienced in a long time. also CECIEL HE CAME BACK YAY also him being from the UK makes so much sense my goodness aughdejwjk CECIEL YES I WAS SO SAD BUT HE'S BACKKKKKK YSYSSYSYSSYSAYAYAYYAAYYYAYAYAY

this was really sweet!!!!

i loved the art, and i really liked how edmund was potrayed-  usually when i see the "person from another century" or like, an animal becoming human it feels like they always play into the embarassment humor and they loose alot of their character, but i didn't feel that way AT ALL with edmund! he was obviously from a diffrent time, it always felt like his speech patterns and knowlege of the word stayed consistent with where he came from and where he is now- and also consitently grew throughout!

 i always noticed the speech patterns and habits with both of them and they felt very human! i could tell throughout the story how able was influenced by his "old friends" and acted like them despite resenting them. i like how you could tell what ables rude moments were based on, and how some of them felt so baseless until you think about what he's been going through. (Able: its been five months since my sister died! i should be over it already! me, who grew up with a grief counseler: oh, honey.)

i love exploring grief through characters, and found it very interesting from a narritive perspective on how able and edmund's sisters haunted the narritive. able talks about how his mom brings up kea constantly, and i feel like the narritive does a good job at making the reader feel that way too- exept a lot more satifying. and edmunds sister feels alot more distant, like how edmund is trying to make her feel. they are both trying to do the same thing in diffrent situations and i find that very interesting. 

their diffrent experinces i feel meshes together quite nicely- edmund loved his sister so much she felt over beared, but she loved and understood him enough that she wanted him to live now that she was gone- she might even describe him as "free" from her. kea loved her brother, but they started to not get along not because of them, but because of the people who were comparing them. Able wanted to be free from his sister, but realized that wasnt what he actually wanted when it happened. able never got to say goodbye to his sister, edmund did, and neither of them are satified. 

they both feel like such individual people, that complement eachother well, able needed someone to show him uncondicinal love, and edmund needed someone to show him how to love himself- or perhaps undersand himself is the right word. maybe those two things are synonomus? 

i really enjoyed this story, it felt really nice to read and i like the dynamic of these two! and the other charcaters of course (who could forget about ms L!!! iconic!!!) very nice!!! thank you for sharing and i will DEFINITETLY check out the other stories in this series!!!

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS MY COMMENT IOEWJJ-  just to be clear nothing is confirmed and this is what i think the game is trying to convey but personally i do think ryan is a true friend to june! i think him not being able to swim simbolizes how hard it is for him to not get dragged down with the rest of his friends, even if hes smart enough to know that they arent the best people to be around. he might have even stayed just for june, im not sure and i never will be!!! thats one of the fun things about SIG games!!! so many of the details like that are left up to fan enterpretation and its great!!!

Ive loved elevator hitch for a long time now, but after playing rot in paradise and having that game resonate with me so much, it made me look back and look at elihitch with fresh eyes.

i havent had a good chance to replay it after playing RIP, but even from just what i remember theres so much hiding underneath the surface that i completely missed, all because i was looking at it from the surface.

its a given that we don't get any clear information on protags past. most of the analysis i see is from floor 4, which makes sense. the cross above the bed and how protag reacts to it indicating a bad and unfortunate past with religion and the ending four: parents are the two i see most often, and there are other things that some people pay attention to on this floor, including the sleeping pills themselves (personally i think they hint to protags deeper problems with anxiety and how its effected his sleep)... but there's another floor that i havent really taken into account when trying to understand protag more until now.

presenting the thing that spawned this whole essay:

floor 8. 

when i first played elevator hitch the doppels were just something that inflicted that same feeling of confusion i get when first playing a SIG game, "confusion" as in "lack of information". at first glance it just looks like they took protag and coworker and flipped their personalities, but as i talked with them more my ~writer senses~ were screaming at me. i was fasintated by how their personalities were changed, but what i was able to deduce at the time, which was just them falling into desperation due to isolation, just made them feel...shallow. it was part of it, but none of what i could come up with, nor what i read from other people, felt like it was encapturing the whole picture.

then i played rot in paradise. 

i already wrote an entire essay about the narritive and how much i loved it in the comments of that game, and to summarize the points i made in the conclusion is that SIG games are rarely ever about what's physically there- its about what those things represent. thats why the thing, the "she" thats being refered to in RIP isnt ever explained, because its just a vehicle for what the game is actually about: the narritive.

after i wrote this multi-paragraph comment, i started thinking about this game. elevator hitch, the one i love and will always hold a special place in my heart, and realized the game isn't about the physical horror of being trapped in a death loop.

its about protag.

i realized that what i was missing in understanding the doppels wasn't missing, i was thinking that the whole entire purpuse the doppels were there was to enforce the horror of being trapped, but that was only there as a vehicle for protags narritive.

i think the doppels purpuse, specifically antag, is to show more about how protag was raised by his parents. 

realizing this felt like my brain was being rewired. it felt so clear! of course the game is about protag! he's litterally the protaganist! this made me think about other things i was confused about while playing this game- what does the raidioactive room represent? why is the answer to the test in there? is the floor connected to the fake cubeicule where you get the cake? if so how???

the reason RIP resonated with me so much is that i knew people like june's friends, i had a best friend like vonnie! (even down to the food disorder- like that was kinda dejavu-ish ngl) AND i had someone like carmen- a best friend who was a terrible influence on me. this is what i love about how Rachel and rix write narritives. they write for themselves, for what they've experienced, and in doing so they attract such a loyal and passionate fanbase that feels seen. all because two artists have a passion.

thank you so much for sharing these games, they genuinely leave me feeling chilled and evoke that specific feeling of terror, and you both write stories in a way that i havent found in a long time, and i hope people feel as connected to my stories one day that they feel connected you yours. you both are my inspiration, and i want you to know that these games- and your studio as a whole -has cemented its place in my heart, and will always be special to me.
