No clue if the dev fixed it in the 2023 patches, (been quite a while since I last played), but I remember changing this to fix the freezing.

I can't test right now because I no longer have a working computer, but I remember it was fairly easy to get working on my Steam Deck, only had to change a line in a file somewhere because the game kept freezing up after a bit of playing.

So it's certainly possible to play this on Linux, maybe you could keep trying?

Sorry if this reply isn't too helpful but I just thought it might be useful to know that it should be playable.

The "more convenient official download" is exactly the reason I'm asking "Won't this get you in trouble"

I mean do whatever you want, I do like having an official polished version of these levels, but know you're playing with fire here.
