Yeah the player character wasn't given much attention. I can see how that might've been confusing.

This was definitely a concern, we didn't figure out a tutorial in time. You've got it right though. The cloud bubble is an indicator of the enemy's move, and you build your own move to go against it. Trying to beat as many of the parts of their move as you can. 

I'm glad you think so too, I think doing the original idea justice with more options and a better tutorial could be pretty fun!
