I think even some low ambient noise or quiet, low-impact music during dialogue is still better than complete silence. However, that's not to say that silence doesn't have its place for dramatic effect.

I think you know you have a good game on your hands here. This would have killed on the NES in its day. My biggest feedback would be to make the wall jumps feel better. Having to hold one direction and simultaneously push the other direction at the same time as jump was a lot for a simple wall jump. Other than that one minor thing, I really enjoyed it.
The grandfather and grandson have so much character. The art style and music are great. The introduction was well done. The gameplay was fun but I was surprised the sword would strike immediately upon possession. Some indication that the grandfather could possess something would really level this game up.
The art style is really really good on this one. It took me a little bit to figure out how to get moving and then didn't take me very long to realize that I'm not very good at it (haha). I'd love to see more if my skills didn't keep me from seeing more of it.
EDIT: Finally made it past the first hill and acquired the blade! I'm now feeling very proud with a sense of accomplishment.
