I was planning to make it so that there are limited number of bullets, and once they ricochet the player has to catch their own to reload, but that feature was not implemented in this version yet. The jump is something im trying to make it perfect, i think a good jump definitely makes the game much better.
Thank you for the feedback.
The game is quite scary the ambience and sudden loud noises are a real good feature. The lockpicking is quite nice, reminds me of games like thief even though its not as complicated. The audio is also great, matches the game.
Even though the level design is great, i do think most people including me will struggle to know what to do in the initial stages, it took some time to even figure out i had more controls than just the basic movement and interact. And maybe a short story at the beginning would make it even better.
The house's design is great, but i do think that there are some things to be nitpicky about like the door i cant even go near seems a bit unusual, but im assuming you want to add something there and havent finished it.
Apart from that, the game was fun, jumpscares were scary ofc, but i can also see room for improvement. (Sorry for the late response, i thought i already set a review for your game ;P).
The game is definitely on the fun side, however i do think that it does lack a bit of juiciness, where i think something extravagant like the zombies just blowing up or some sort of animation when they die would make it better with some sound effects. The controls are unique in my opinion, most people me included with muscle memory still had a finger on the spacebar but this was easier. The artstyle is really nice, the mc kinda looks like red from pokemon(unrelated).
I think overall the game has potential, its kinda like ones where you spend hours on levelling up and getting stronger, but a high score would make it even better.
Thanks for the feedback. I am adding crouch, I actually just forgot to make the animation for it lol. I definitely will make it so the jump feels heavier, right now its just a basic jump that has no feel for it, as for the effects, i think without effects no game is good, I was thinking of adding sparks whenever it hits a platform, whereas something else when it hits a player.
Also great reference, Ive played pocketTanks before and its a fun game, ill try to incorporate some of the features that i find fun.
Definitely a fun game, reminds me of asteroids a bit, but this is with enemies and i really like the behaviors of different mobs, like how the green ones move away the closer you get. In my opinion, the scaling of the number of mobs is fine, i can handle it personally maybe not someone else but however, their health is way too high. I wanted to see what happens when i fill up the second bar but i couldnt do it with multiple runs. Apart from that the only thing missing is probably sound effects for collisions(not for enemy firing because it may just be too much noise).
Other things id recommend are what i see in other comments, like more power ups and such.
The game is fun, something arcade-y to get lost in, so maybe even a high score and leader board can go a long way.
The game is quite fun, however i do think games like these definitely require music and sound effects more than others. The effects are all great, slowing down makes you a bit more paranoid which is quite a good effect for this, but the cherry on the cake has to go to the flipping of the screen and controls. That took some time to get used to and even then it was hard.
The level design looks good, it could use some tweaks, a few platforms to run onto and jump would be nice, and maybe even disappearing platforms.
All in all its fun, but i do think music should do some or most of the work here.
So firstly, yeah players will have HP and an HP bar, instakill would be fine in like a zombie mode where infinite spawns happen i think(but i dont plan on making that yet). Definitely the jump needs to feel better, i was thinking kind of like platformer games where the jump feels heavy.
Thanks for the feedback btw.
So firstly, I dont really play many horror games, and usually when i do its more psychological horror. This game really nails the eerie vibes, whether it is the artwork, music or the creatures having different personalities. I cant really say much about what can be improved but i can make some suggestions which may or may not be good. Firstly, i think having some "fake" noises would be quite nice, like a rabbit or bat to give some fake ambience. And another thing would be to add one more mob, because i think even though the 2 is enough, by my 3rd life i got a bit used to it, and one that only spawns when 4 items collected would make it scarier. But its for more hardcore players i guess.
I did encounter 2 bugs, i dont know if this is to be mentioned in the review, but ill say it nonetheless if it can be of any help. One was that the game crashed when i saw one of the entities, and the other, i got trapped in a tree and when i crouched i went under the map.
Overall i enjoyed the game a lot, i think a few more levels and a bit of story, I can see myself buying it on steam.
Thanks for the feedback, i actually plan on more changes, like increasing the speed of each bullet with each bounce a bit, and also enabling the player to catch their own bullet(limiting how many bullets a player has), for the core gameplay at least. Ill take into consideration the power ups as well.
This was a lot of fun. Honestly not a lot i can tell about what to improve in a infinite auto runner game. I think music plays a huge part in such games, so not having it definitely a negative but im pretty sure you already plan on putting in music. Also i think increasing the frequency of the slimes as your score goes higher is quite, while also making the game scroll faster. Lastly, a score history of at least the current session would be nice, idk how hard a leaderboard would be to implement to give that as a suggestion. But overall its great fun.
Just a general fyi: The game is incomplete and hard to review as such, but heres a general gist of how it will be by next week. Its supposed to be multiplayer, however i havent implemented the second player completely yet and also it is harder to review this during the playtesting online.
The next steps are to finalize the second player, add in colors and effects to differentiate the bullets and players, maybe even a marker on top of the character, add in sound effects and also clean up the movement so the jump feels heavier.
Thank you.
