This happens to me too when trying to play on keyboard controls, or on a controller with dpad. I have to play on controller with analog stick because of this, but it works perfectly.
I've already gotten sub 60 with no glitches a few weeks ago so it is possible, and someone else has gotten sub 60 using the midair jump glitch you mentioned.
