Certainly you can replace an ally, that would make for an interesting scene! And if you reuse an adventurer, perhaps you could roll to see whether each item or ally is still with you when the next story begins? In the pulps, the hero usually starts over with next to nothing, so perhaps you could limit yourself to keeping only one thing from a prior adventure?
