Sometimes jams have a main theme which is announced before the start and a secondary theme which is announced when the jam starts. You don't have to do this but it is a good option if you're concerned about cheating.

Hi! Honestly, I forgot about this experiment. If I remember correctly, I ended up removing the price because few people were interested in paying. However, a couple people have donated.

I always point people towards Shaun Spalding and this video seems to be the most up-to-date for learning how to make a platformer

however as mentioned in the video, there are other videos on that channel which may be more suited towards beginners.

I make tutorials myself but haven't covered this topic. I would like to in the future so maybe subscribe https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBmOLRTaPrfOxnTqpCLrwdQ and I will probably get around to it

Awesome game - had loads of fun playing through this with a friend and every character interaction made us laugh. I love how the battle system basically only serves to make sure you've seen enough jokes before you leave an area (or to make you laugh on its own).

Yes! Our musician uploaded it to Bandcamp

Wow, that was very cool! I really liked how your character had an interesting moveset to master. The big problem is that there is only one enemy type and that really makes the game drag after a while. The problem with this jam is that having a highscore feature normally means developers only make arcade games. Unfortunately arcade games survive on variety and when the game doesn't change much, just more enemies, you can't play for too long. Overall it was a really cool concept but it needed more enemies. P.S I liked how the music changed at the end!

Very cool game! What you did well was you had a pretty good vertical slice of gameplay. There were no bugs that I saw, the game progressed fluidly, it was easy to understand and play. I enjoyed the music although the art was a little lacking. If I had one tip for the art it would be to look up and understand the concept of mixels in pixel art. The bad side to the game is that although it was pretty polished it wasn't very deep. There was only one type of enemy that I saw and the game. If you want the player to play for a long time, the game needs to change slightly over the course of the play time. Instead of just getting harder by adding more enemies, there could have been more enemy types, or collectables that you had to move to grab. These are just ideas, overall, great attempt!

Super fun game! I first played on Android after seeing Tom Francis play it and now I have the demo on PC and will probably buy the full version soon. Bc I played Android first I currently have 2 wins and 0 losses - let's see how long I can keep this streak :)

Wow thanks for playing! I might be working on something that you would like soon, hint hint :)

Well thanks for trying anyway!

I mean, yes, it is unoptimized but no one else has had any issues, and definitely nothing this bad. I can only assume its some hardware or browser issue which would be difficult or impossible for me to fix.

Hmm... That's strange, it may be because its a chromebook but if you are able to run a .exe you can download the game. Unfortunately I have no way to release a game on Linux yet.

Well look how many people have played the game so far with no issues. I just want people to have fun playing my game! Thanks for giving it a go btw.

Hi sorry you had this isssue, I promise there is no virus! Try opening the game from within WinRar or another .zip opening software. Let me know if you need more help. :)

Thanks for playing! And thank you for making that cool video, glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for playing! Yep I will admit I definitely forgot to add any sort of death transition. I'm working on some new stuff (sequel-ish) and I am now aware of this issue.

Thank you for playing the game! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Oh sorry, the page doesn't show your contribution clearly. Don't be discouraged, I just think that you need some more practice within this style as the pixel art was a bit too messy. Try using cleaner shapes and a better colour palette. Good luck.

Thank you, obviously I didn't have time to add more levels, but I actually do have a restart button if you lose the game. Probably should have put that at the end if you win the game, d'oh.

You know, this is almost a pretty good game and you just made a few mistakes. I don't think 1234 is a bad control scheme as others have said but the problem is that the gameplay is very easy to "cheese" and it is essentially a button mashing game. Keep working at it and you will improve no doubt! Cool game.

Very flashy with lots of cool effects but unfortunately it doesn't play very great. The controls are unintuitive (a running theme in this jam) and there is very little player feedback. I think that maybe the tower defence genre is a little difficult to start with as there wasn't a really good one in this jam.

A super competent tower defence game. I have played similar games in this jam and so I'll keep the feedback brief. I really liked that you had a couple options for towers however the game isn't super intuitive to play as you need to use an odd mixture of left click and right click to play the game (this is a problem in a lot of other games in this jam). Also, the skip wait button (a nice addition) didn't give me the extra currency which was for some reason tied to the time which made me wait for a while. If this was fixed, and if you got an artist on your team, you could have something really interesting. It would have also been nice if the theme swarm is integral to the gameplay and not just a skin for a bee-themed tower defence game.

A surprisingly fun game - the zombie deaths are very satisfying when they go down in one shot and the gore effects are also nice. I wish the camera wasn't so zoomed in because the game feels quite claustrophobic right now and also the world needed to be bigger so you wouldn't constantly hit the edges.

A very competent tower defence game - I liked the grid based tower placement and once I sorted out how to use the UI it was fairly simple to plat. The game gets a bit boring after a while though because there's no real strategy. The towers are too inaccurate to guarantee your win so after a while your loss just becomes inevitable. I also couldn't figure out what the cheese did.

Oof. That opening cutscene (although long and in dire need of a skip button) really set up a great atmosphere for the game. Really creepy. Unfortunately, when you finally get into the gameplay, it turns out to be a generic top down shooter with really boring swarm AI. There's not even any tension as the game goes from 0-100 in like 10s. You walk around the first corner and see a couple enemies, then suddenly you are swarmed by like 50 and you just hold down LMB to try and kill them. From the short amount of gameplay I got there doesn't seem to be much strategy because the AI walks in a straight path and you can fire your gun for a long time. Remember, if the player doesn't have any incentive to stop firing, they will shoot as much as possible which is really not interesting. Overall lovely art and sound design but you could have cut the opening scene because it looks like it took a lot of time and people have only complained about it so far in favour of improving the gameplay.

Haha I was worried about laptops. Even my gaming PC starts to chug at 95%. Thanks for playing!

Very cool game and thank you for being on the stream for so long! The game had a very cool concept and if you had fixed some of the bugs and ironed out the difficulty you could have a really fun action game! Great job!

From the odd lighting to hearing Jo Jo and Naruto music, this was a very confusing game. You could've easily had a good game but the lighting effect confused me and it took me a while to figure out how to play the game. The game needed a bit more time to be tweaked but then it will be good. Cool game!

Even though the game was very simple, it could have been a simple minigame from Wario Ware, it was pretty polished and didn't break (unlike most of the games from this jam). So even though you could have done more, for what it was, you've done a great job!

This game has a lot going for it and we said on the stream that we liked the shadows. Actually, one problem with the shadows is that real shadows don't overlap like that. What you should have done is draw all the shadows to one layer fully black, then reduce the opacity of that layer so the shadows don't overlap. Apart form that, I was pretty confused by the game and couldn't get it to work properly so I can't really comment on the full gameplay. Definitely needs more polish but if you work at it it could be good.

I didn't even want to give this game the honour of being judged but if I can put this joke game to the bottom of the pile then I will. I don't think this was worth your time to make and it definitely wasn't worth my time to play.

Once I figured out how the game worked it was actually quite good fun! I liked scanning the screen to find the possible solutions. However I didn't like the fact that you died so quickly and I felt like the game had a bit of an identity crisis. It was part puzzle game, yet it also was real time so it felt like an action game a bit. If you sort this out, and make it so that the puzzles are always solvable, you could have a good game. Look at Nova-111 for a game which mixes turn based and real time.

It was great fun to play this game with you on the stream! Even though we talked a lot about the game I remember my time with it as being pretty fun and actually inspiring me to try and beat it even though it was brutally difficult. You should go back to your space game which you described to me as this control scheme has a lot of potential once you work out the flaws in it. Awesome job!

It was a joy to see what the nerd team came up with and chat with two of you on the stream. I really liked the idea behind the game and as I told you two, if you had simplified the controls then you could have had something really special. I feel like the block moving tasks and the combat tasks were incongruent as it took a while to navigate the UI to the attack mode which meant that the combat was too difficult. I feel like if you were to continue the game you should simplify the design and maybe focus on either the puzzles or the combat. Awesome job guys!

To be honest, even though you two were very harsh about your own game on the stream, I had quite a bit of fun with it (although most of it was just laughing at you two being mean about your own game and talking about the bugs). I think if you fleshed out this game a bit more, you could have had something really fun. I don't think the level needed to spin, that probably hurt the game a lot as you had to deal with some pretty funky collisions, but if you had worked more on making the ball more fluid and keeping the swarm in the level it could have been great! Awesome job!

This was the first game I played from the jam and I believe you were on the stream whilst I played it! I really liked the idea behind it so I don't want to sound harsh but it just wasn't actually fun to type in every letter on my keyboard, press enter, and check if it was right. Also the game wasn't very easy to understand without you messaging me what to do. The idea is solid but you just need to rework it into a real game and not just a guessing simulator.
