oh boy do I have good news for you.

(1 edit)

you can find it on the dev page: votv.dev under "archive". Also you don't need a password for those versions, the current one being 0.9d.

Where do I have to install this module anyways? I have bought it and could not add it to the radar, which was the logical next step to me after receiving it.

Hi!

This is my first post and I had the need to give a review to the latest update. I've been a VotV player since March 2023 and I played most builds that came out since then (skipped 0.7 iirc) and I really love this game and want to add to its development by leaving some feedback.

First: The controls
I really don't get the hate to be honest. In my opinion the controls are way better than before. It always baffled me how basically everything was just Alt+E. The new layout adds a bit to the Half Life feeling, where "E" let's you pick up stuff aswell. Using E for object interaction and R to put stuff into inventary or the hand is pretty easy and intuitive and I really hope that despite some criticism against it, the new controls will stay. The only thing that is a bit weird is the left shit + E one, where you can draw a line in which the object is supposed to be pulled, because that really feels clunky at times.

ATV
Nice design, but imo the ATV as a gameplay element is horrible now. I used it in my first playthrough, suddenly that thing did not want to start anymore and I didn't know what happened, it hat 0 Power, no matter which key I hit. Turns out you now need a car battery for 150 bucks. That's nothing I want to experience on day 1. To be honest, I really don't want any detailed car mechanics elements in this game, the simple "throw toolbox against ATV" was sufficient. Haven't touched the ATV ever since, might give another go after purchasing the solar module (1.5k for the solar module is crazy lmao). Also flying off the vehicle after a small crash is annoying and the vehicle itself is so volatile, I'm amazed it doesn't lose any HP when touching grass like what the fuck is this thing

Triangulation

At first I hated it, especially at the beginning of the game. But then I remembered how slow the cursor was in the older version and how I missed signals all the time because stuff was slow as christmas. Investing early money in ping cooldown helps a lot, and the base offers enough possibilities to earn a lot of cash on day one.

Trash

I fucking hated the trash system when it was implemented. Even though you could make a lot of money by selling full garbage bags, the whole game suddenly felt like work and I did not enjoy it. So when I first entered the base in 0.9. I was immediatly annoyed, since there seems to be way more trash than ever before. But when I found out, that piles where just objects where you could draw 5 trash items from, I was quite happy, because picking up trash has never been fast (just spamming E+R cleans every room in a few seconds as long as the inventory isn't full).

Server minigames

I liked the old ones, I'm amazed that there are some new ones and that they do not suck. But there is one mini game in particular that I hate very much, that is the one in which you have to pull a yellow dot through a "maze". I know exactly where the dev got the inspiration from and I seriously hate every implication behind this minigame.

Generator minigames

I like

Upgrade modules

love them. Yet it is kinda confusing: I bought the Global Alarm module and couldn't add it to the radar, which has 4 module slots, but obviously now purchasable module.

New base design
love it

Options being blocked at game start
Fuck you. Why the fuck can I buy a radio from day 1 but have to wait to fucking day 7 to be finally able to use it?

Ragdoll effects
That one reeeaaally annoys me and I just want to be able to turn it off. Just jumping down like 10cm and Kel immediately starts to roll, this is utter bullshit. That yee yee ass ragdoll effect should be part of the funny option as the only "not fun" option.

Hashes / Floppy disks

It's a nice upgrade from adding simple paper sheets to your cardbox to using floppy discs to download some data. In theory it is much quicker than the older method, but currently the error-retry-rate is ridiculous. I had to buy a new floppy disk very early since I lost one, and even the one with 0 uses had one error after another. I mean, if the floppy had been used for like 100 times, okay, but a fresh and new floppy disk? C'mon

All in all it's a nice update and I really enjoy the new stuff so far. Amazing to see how this game world went from some low poly - low texture resolution open world with a simple cubric building in its center to this realisticly feeling open world with each new iteration.
