I got an ARC for this sweet novel and really enjoyed it. I especially liked the mix of cosiness and high, deadly stakes. This is what drew me to the ARC initially and I wasn't disappointed.
The community aspect, which is a stapple of cosy fiction, was treated in unexpected but satisfying ways, especially at the beginning.
Ambrose is a well-developed protagonist, and the story and conflict fit him like a glove (a very uncomfortable one for him, but a perfect one for the audience!) I liked all the characters and how their relationships evolved.
I highly recommend this book if you like character-driven fantasy and stories about healing. This was my first S. Jean book and it won't be the last!
