The goal of this mod is not to have AI drive through and destroy fully grown crops. The intended behavior is to handle stubble destruction after harvest when using AI workers as they don't by default. By this the script is focusing on the aftermath stage rather than the growth stage. I guess you can look at it as AI Stubble destruction.
