oh wow thank you so much for this comment, really appreciate all the kind words!

I come from an animation background so that’s the only part of the process I felt more confident in haha. But I was so pleased with the art and music that my team contributed, so I’m glad you feel likewise!

That’s interesting about the error after the first battle, I haven’t seen that happen before. Web GL seems to be such a minefield! Whenever you get the time if you could let me know what browser and OS you were using, I can try to replicate the issue. Otherwise aye please go ahead and try either a different browser (but not Firefox on a Mac) or try a download if you wanna explore the game more!

And I’ll be sure to check your game out very soon!

Thanks so much for playing!

Ahah, balancing the "point" of the game with standard gameplay incentives was definitely my biggest challenge.

You do sorta  play as the "bad guy", so it feels a bit counterintuitive at times, but my hope is that it'll mirror some of the real-world conflicts of feeling compelled to utilise your defence mechanisms even when you know it's fundamentally against your best interests.

(I did actually include a secret alternative route to the ending to help this metaphor feel more consistent haha. Hopefully someone figures it out)

I'd love to hear any more thoughts on how you think that concept could be better communicated!

If I make a sort of version 2.0 I may try to implement any ideas that help. I had like ZERO playtesting before deadline, so it's interesting to hear people's thoughts!

Thank you so much for your comments on the artwork too, I'll pass that along to the people who helped bring it together.
And I'll be sure to check your game out soon ! :)

UPDATE 2.0 : Sprite Atlases for the client and therapist seem to fail to load if you're playing the browser version on Firefox and on a Mac computer. So if you would like to play the HTML version within Itch.io and you use a Mac, please just use an alternative browser! Safari seems to work fine, as does Chrome :)

Ah man what a sweet game. Unfortunately I couldn't relate to Leonard because he's so incredibly thoughtful haha. But nah, the level of polish is unbelievable, and the sound design was a really nice touch.

I'm glad I had that wee choice at the end. Also very nice touch with the long stairwell as well haha, I feel like I've been there before. And everything felt very intuitive. Little things like putting the cat doormat outside the cat owner's house go so far. You're some really talented guys!

wow, this means a lot coming from you!

I had a quick look at your game the other day, it’s so polished! Been meaning to play it properly, but I’ve been bug fixing and catching up with all the things I was putting off for weeks up to the deadline haha. But I’m gonna play it asap and get back to you :)

Thanks so much, really appreciate your kind words (and aye it’s true I accidentally injected some pennywise into the demon haha)

Thank you!

Hi there. Thanks, I've removed the submission and I've got the correct build on my page now. If you send over the link I'll resubmit right away, thank you!

Hi again!

After 2 days of searching, I believe I finally found the culprit of the error.
It was hard to diagnose because it seems to only cause issues in a Windows browser (and with Dev mode off), but it was some kind of asynchronous loading issue.

If it's not too late I'd love to replace my web GL  build so that I can share it around. (I didn't want to share it whilst it failed to load on Windows... Also I've only just learnt about code-signing, so my download may flag as unsafe, I don't know if that's a common issue, but figured it's best not relying on local downloads?)

Anyways, the only things changed to my project was a slight reordering to the loading sequence. Hope that's okay to re-submit!

Okay it's NOT fixed haha. I'm not sure what the pattern is, it randomly works on some people's machines and randomly not sometimes.

This may take me a day or so to troubleshoot! I'll just leave a description warning the issue on my page, but otherwise if the judges would like to try the game in the meantime, please go ahead and just download the exe or app files, or even try it on Mac browser (but I'm slightly suspicious of the reliability of that too now!).  Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks so much for your replies

Awesome, thanks so much, I'm just going to test that it's working with other people after the re upload to a secret post! And as soon as that seems all good I'll go ahead and do that.

Thank you!

Just a wee update, I just tried a Web GL build with a larger initial memory size. Loading that scene takes a bit longer now perhaps, but it seems to be running smoothly on Windows now. With permission, I'd like to replace my HMTL  upload of my game as long as it doesn't affect my submission in some way! The local Windows and Mac versions are there regardless, but the Web GL architecture is probably the one I've tested more thoroughly.

Hi there!
Just a quick question for the Game Jam hosts.|

I've just noticed my game fails to load properly via the browser on my PC, but seems to work okay on my Mac. I'm trying to determine now if it's just me or if its a platform specific issue.

It does seem to work fine on browser for at least some people as I haven't had any reports of issues yet, BUT.

I already submitted alternative local builds for my project prior to the deadline, but I was just wondering if were I to replace the Web GL build on my page with something further optimised, would that interfere with my submission at all? Or do you guys already have like a stored version of it? (Sorry I'm new to participating in game jams, not totally aware of how the system works!)

Many Thanks

Jacob

Oh sorry I missed your reply! Thanks for letting me know though, I did basically avoid any personal use fonts in favour of completely Open Source,  I wish I'd seen the message regarding Adobe fonts though haha. There were some nice ones I may have included, all good though! Thank you

Basically says it in the title there, but yeh I would love some further clarification about font usage.

Is something okay if its a free for Personal Use license but not completely Open Source, or if it's a demo?
Like does a competition like this count as commercial use?

Also what about Adobe fonts? Are we allowed to embed them in our games?

I'd also like to know more about this! I was going to sneak fonts from Adobe into my game but I think technically they're not allowed to be embedded in other programs according to Adobe's own terms and conditions? So even though they're free with Adobe, I don't know if they're okay seeing as it's not completely Open Source.

My next question would be about fonts that are free for Personal Use...I imagine they're fine? But I dunno, like you said, typefaces are a little tricky.
