I actually equipped my own robe and was surprised to find the dwarf wearing one later one. So either a bug or I somehow accidentally added it to him, I don't know if that's possible.
For the record though I am not familiar with POE and my experience with these games is promising to play TOK someday and 20 minutes of diablo 2 remastered.

Got into the mines, got the dwarf with me. At some point he seemed to pick up a robe, which is neat. 
Eventually clearing the mines aimlessly got me low on health so I went back to the town. There I tried to buy potions, which felt really hard. They also cost more than I thought they would from the tooltip. Then I lost some more gold trying to pick up a leather armor and dropping it again. 
I also couldn't figure out how to equip my lightning skill. 
I would have enjoyed if the game dangled a carrot of telling me when to leave so I could go back to town to buy sick loot or something.

Ok, I gave this a go on PC. The most noticeable thing was I really, really felt the need to lock on because enemies kept getting around me. All my dodges were in one direction which felt odd. And some enemies were really good at blocking but seemed to die anyway. I also didn't get much past the two naked ladies in the house.
