any time i try to gift the npcs, i keep getting an error message saying exception: grid overfull. how do i fix this

I have so far really loved the game. It’s almost therapeutic when you know what to do, it’s strategic without getting frustrating. It’s easy to study and collect stats and cards without overworking the princess. However, the only thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that sometimes I will have the required card for a situation in my deck but it won’t appear in the response deck causing me to lose favour and affection. Is there something I’m doing wrong or is that supposed to happen?

I would like to start off by saying I'm in love with this game. It has such a surreal  vibe to it plus the title has my birth month in it. I'm stuck with "the Orange Room", I just can't figure out the code.
