Why would you need to be steam only? Just because Itch could be volatile does not mean you need to abandon the platform. Other games have listings on both steam and itch and if people wan't to buy on itch, that is their prerogative. I personally prefer to get my games on Itch and it would be devastating to lose access to a game like this.

Thats alright, I just love your work. Is there any way to add mod support? I would like to take a crack at some of these ideas myself.

It's already looking great. It may be ambitious, but if there is a way to generate the levels and upgrades every run that would be so cool. I love the story mode style level system that's already there. 

Also basing puzzles on transformations is good. Would love to see the shops and the like too. Honestly I'm just thinking about slay the spire now. 

Under the game folder there is a folder called save. You should be able to just back those up into a separate location.

I just tested this on firefox and it worked fine.  The problem could be your permissions for the website. 
Good luck on finding a solution, the game is really fun!

I just started the new update and I think it kept my old save with zero input from me.
