thank you for your perspective. i can find myself pretty much completely agreeing with you here. I also feel like theres the fact that (especially with a text such as Gilgamesh, which is all fragmented and lost in so many places) stories innately tend to almost always have breaks in time that we do not see, allowing us to imagine what happened in that time period. One of my favorite examples is in Hamlet (spoiler warning)

 where we have this huge gap of time where Horatio and Hamlet are travelling together back to Denmark after Hamlet gets exiled. we do not know what happened between the two in that time period, but the way in which they interact afterwards definitely makes me feel like they are a gay couple. anyways uhh ye

If I remember correctly, there is a line somewhere in the story where Asterion says something about Gilgamesh and Enkidu being gay for each other. When I read Gilgamesh, I didn’t really interpret their relationship this way — instead, more so like a deep, brotherly bond. Moreover, with what I know about the mores regarding relationships in ancient Mesopotamia, I doubted that they would be romantically or sexually involved with each other. I do admit, however, that they definitely might seem queer coded out of context, and that, since we do not have all of the Epic to read and understand, ascertaining their true relationship may be rather difficult. If you would be willing to tell, I’m curious to hear what your perspective is on this issue. This question has been weirdly haunting me for weeks for whatever reason lol…
