Download the game and follow the instructions.

Nah little bro, get your grind on for exams.

It is free, donations are optional.

The "Play as" button exists so it is possible to play as sub nations (Greenland, New Caledonia, California, etc) which do not exist at the start of the game.

Try maxing out your recruitable population and securing defendable parts of your country (islands, mountains, etc). They are difficult, but you can avoid them by keeping your stability high and changing ideologies before changing your government.

How so?

I recommend you read the tutorial for a detailed explanation on the combat mechanics, and play the game at 1x speed when in war.

You're thinking of Spirits of Steel: A New Dawn, the sequel to Spirits of Steel.

You have to extract sosandwin from sosandwin.zip

Did you extract the game from the zip file? If not, did you take main.exe out of the sosand directory?

Could be a supply issue? You'll always loose if you don't have enough money to supply your troops regardless of defense perks or how many divisions you have.

You probably did not extract the game folder from the .zip file.

I use virtualbox for running linux virtual machines, I don't know if that would be good for running a windows virtual machine on a mac system. There's lots of good tutorials on how to do it online.

The game only supports windows, it's not working because mac devices can't run executables. You can get around this by running the game on a virtual machine.

Whether or not you have hundreds of divisions, you will still loose assuming you don't have enough factories to supply them.

Both suggestions are coming in the next update.

The AI trains troops and then doesn't immediately deploy them until you go to war. The idea behind having them have max army per population at the start of the game is so that you focus on infrastructure in the early game while you wait for your military to build up.

The next update I am adding unclaimed land and custom countries.

You can change your ideology through your decision tree.

I've made it in the next update so that you don't need ports to move divisions onto water on 1 tile islands. This should fix the problem.

If you could that would be great. Join the game's discord server and DM me the save file.

Coming in the next update.

Based

This is being addressed, thanks for your feedback.

All of these problems are being addressed in the next update. Although, China building a faction in that way is intentional, as they're roughly even when fighting NATO, Mexico, and North Africa.

It's possible that you're having supply problems. Money is needed to attack, and if you run out, you will loose every battle. This scales with the number of divisions in battle. Try building more factories.

The biome you're fighting on can also add modifiers to attack / defense. Check to see if that's causing problems as well.

This will be fixed next update.

The game is probably paused, press the plus button in the top right.

There's only a windows build right now, but you can still download it and play with a virtual machine.

As of right now, you cannot annex specific regions. This is a feature coming in the next update though.

Pressing escape will bring up a menu, press "save," "new save," then type in the name of your save and press "okay."

I don't think I'll ever be able to put in multiplayer, unfortunately.

There's nothing I can really do about that unfortunately, because of the way regions are set up.

Thank you so much!

That's not a feature quite yet unfortunately, working on it though.

The game is free with optional donations, don't feel a need to pay

The AI nations do not ignore manpower constraints, they just deploy more divisions when you declare war on them, as you can as well. Economy does matter, it's required to resupply divisions. Divisions will wait to go into a battle unless they are fully supplied, otherwise nothing will happen (as per why the units have movement lines but don't damage each other). You can refer to the tutorial for more details.

I do agree with you however that this is not communicated well outside of the tutorial, so I will work on improving that.
